The majority of posts in this thread prove how low the level of boxing knowledge is on these boards. Foreman was counted out...period. He was down for 10 seconds...period.
The commentator at ringside for whatever reason tolled the count a count or two behind the actual count. The ref tolled TEN and waved his arms in the classic your out fashion. Secondly the count was timed several times weeks later on wide world of sports. It indeed showed that the count was completely accurate. There is absolutely no controversy in terms of the count unless you ignore reality. Another point is that Alis camp pushed for a 20 foot ring. Foreman pushed for an 18 foot ring. The compromise was a 19 foot ring. However the ropes were for a 20 foot ring and this is why they were a bit loose. I can tell you that no one including Ali himself knew he was going to use the ropes before the fight started. Ali planned on outboxing exhausting and beating Foreman but found at the end of round one that he was exhausting himself trying to keep away from Foremans power. Between rounds he decided to fight more stationary...sometimes on the ropes sometimes counter punching. Mostly he used the rings parimeter as George tired side stepping and catching foreman coming in.
