Did Hatton duck Witter during his career ?

You've got to be ****ing kidding me, you don't believe THAT bull**** any more than I do. And the only viable window of opportunity for the fight was between 2004 (perhaps 03) and the Tszyu fight.

 

It did appear that way, from how I saw it.
Hatton won the British title, (a title he claimed he always wanted to win). Witter was his mandatory, so he vacated that title for the WBU belt, without ever defending it. Which title do you thinks more prestigious, The British title or The WBU title? Id say The British without question.
Then Hatton fought alot of lesser fighters saying Witter wasnt an attraction, but fought guys that casual fans hadnt heard of and lesser British level fighters like S Smith, E Magee & J Rowland.
At world level there were some fights that Hatton took, where Witter would have been a bigger name and could have been a great unification fight. At one stage they were the top 2 Ring LWWs.

So yes I think Hatton avoided Witter.
I think Witter would have beaten Hatton earlier in their careers, but by the time Witter became a world champ, I felt he had started to decline and felt Hatton could have had a good chance to have beaten him at the time Witter was a world champ.

 

So, just for the sake of argument, say he'd got beat by Witter, wow wouldn't that have been just great!!

It would have meant that British boxing would have never got the Tszyu, Mayweather or Pac nights.

I loved the build up to those fights, the events themselves, despite Hatton getting clocked and personally I wouldn't wish them all away to see a probable total stinker of a fight with Junior Witter.

If Hatton had gone on to fight a load of chumps, retired undefeated, I'd be fully behind the Witter thing, big time, but the fact is, he didn't, later on he stepped in the ring to fight prime versions of some of the greatest boxers ever to walk the earth.

 

I personally don't think he ducked him out of fear of losing.

He avoided fighting him because he disliked the guy and didn't want to give him a payday and publicity

 

How long is it going to be before we see another thread about Tszyu being shot?!

 

Kosta Tszyu was shot to sh*t when he fought Hatton yet Hatton still needed a bent ref to help him wrestle,hug and maul his way illegally to victory.

There was big talk of Witter-Hatton after Hatton lost to Mayweather. It would have made sense too.

 

No there wasn't.

No devastated fighter would walk straight off a major loss, their first ever loss after 40+ fights, after being knocked out big time (humiliated in a way), straight into a World Title fight with a potentially very tricky fighter, a person they can't stand and one a loss to would carve up their whole career for good.

Every fighter has a comeback fight to restore confidence.

 

Straight after that, Bradley, a guy who had never beat a top 50 fighter in the division before, had just embarrassed Witter big time, taking the title from him.

Fighting and beating him then would have meant nothing and Hatton would have been ridiculed for doing so.

That's ignoring any the US interest in a fight with Paulie, which wouldn't have been there with Witter.
