i think his injuries were real enough and i think he had carved himself a nice lifestyle. he has horses and has plenty of irons in the fire. i feel that retired fighters sometimes get a little jealous of the attention given to active champions; that's why they 'let slip' that they may come back, or have been offered big money to fight again. i like how nelson comes across and he is a very astute commentater but he wasn't an exiting fighter. enzo would have been a hard fight for him and haye would have done a norbert ekassi job on him. it must gratify the ego to say something half joking and see your photo in the paper the next day. he won't be back.

To coin a phrase Johnny often uses, if he and Enzo fought it would have been a 'cracking fight'.

    i agree.

    nelson fought in
    south america
    north america
    asia
    australasia
    africa
    germany many times
    italy

he did chicken out of antartica.

but enzo i agree, i just do not see it.

good money fight for him if he could have made it happen and the reason he took all those fights in the other mans backyard was obviously because they paid well.

its not as if he was protecting any zero.

also there were paper stories of nelsons family being targeted by kidnappers which would not have been easy for him.

cannot remember the timeframe of those stories though.

Nelson would have beaten Maccarinelli. i dont think he had any reason to duck the final/biggest pay check of his career...

He sure seemed willing to fight.

I read his book and he I do believe that his injury was legit.

Still, a shame he never fought Jirov or Gomez. We'll never how good his defensive style would have been against those guys.

Give the guy credit for one thing, though--he was ALWAYS in shape.

At the time I though Nelson would outbox Enzo, but the more I think about it, the more I think Enzo is in with a real good chance.

No rematch needed, Jones clearly won that fight IMHO.
