Did Mayorga basically live on his wins over Forrest?

Just wanna remind you that recently Vernon Forrest has beaten Picirillo and he is back in the mix but Mayorga already beat Picirillo convincingly knocking him down several times. Mayorga lost to DLH and Tito no shame in that.

exactly... people need to remember that the only 2 fights in the last... what... 10 years or so that mayorga hasnt been that competetive in was the tito and hoya fights. tito at 160 no less... and hoya he had to take illegal drugs to even make 154, hardly the dedicated and motivated mayorga that was coming up through the ranks when he met forrest...

i doubt we will ever see that mayorga again though

at any rate... towards the thread

He knocked out cruz brutally.... a badass KO... and cruz can punch..

which set him up against then champ i believe of wba lewis...
    knocked lewis out brutally

which he rode into the forrest fight
    knocked him out

    Had to rematch him
    beat him by decision

defended his title against spinks and lost it in a decently close scrap which differant people see it going differant ways

so no... he didnt just ride his win over forrest, he set his momentum up before forrest, hit the peak with forrest, and has been on a slide since really...

you know i remember before the spinks fight how he was talking about how he wants to retire... and i knew that it would be his downfall.

coming up... he was fighting because he was poor.... he trained his ass off and it showed. now hes already made it, and just showing up for the paychecks for the most part... which to me explains his weight problems... he stated for the vargas fight he doesnt care at all about boxing really, he doesnt even care if he makes it to the HOF... he just wants to make money. cant blame him, but shows his mindset going into these fights these days. as opposed to when he was fighting to get to where he is at now against lewis and forrest.

Remember --- "Wins" over Forest (2 of them and 1 of those a devastating knockout).
If that make Mayorga no one, then that makes Forest a whole bunch less.
Since then he has had a convincing win against Vargas, Piccorello and majority draw against Spinks and 2 loses (Trinadad and Delahoya).
    Thats not too shabby.

Mayorga was never rated as a highly touted fighter, well maybe at one time when he beat Forrest. So yeah he's still living off Forrest's name, but who cares? As far as I can tell Forrest should have never lost to Mayorga in the first place.

And Mosley has lived off his wins against De la Hoya. Take them away and he has just a decent resume. :good

Mayaorga should never have been robbed against Spinks but he was, aside from that he defenitely is getting maximum mileage out of the two Forrest wins. Then he gets lucky and knocks down Vargas late in the fight to seal that deal. The Mayorga train continues to roll and since he isnt much more than a moderate threat and his crazy personality creates some excitement expect him to be in a few more money fights.

Forest should of never lost to Mayorga ???
You can say that once --- but twice ????
I suggest that Forest is overated big time.
Mayorga brought the "DOG" out in him.
    For what its worth,
neither of them are great fighters.
    Mayorga is the more entertaining.
    Forest cant draw flies.

That was before he met Tito and Oscar.
