I was ringside for the fight... Paulie never threatened to knock down Cotto, but a few shots did "stun" him. Cotto looked gaunt, like he was starving to make weight, and he didn't have the same stamina at middle/end of the fight. I'd say that it was more the speed of the punches and the weight draining that left Cotto "stunned". However, after Paulie got busted up, he did give Cotto a good fight...
Paulie took two punches from Miguel and did'nt budge though they were'nt flush but got to give credit.
I thought he had him a little wobbly in the knees in the 9th. That was when Cotto was REALLY gassed- He did a three step on his heels but I think paulie was afraid to get in close and give up his range to try to seal the deal. Paulie already had the fractured orbit and cut. It isn't that Paulie hits hard *OBVIOUSLY* But he does seem to have great attrition and can wear people out by making them run around after him and a lot of missed punches = a lot of wasted energy. I think its also how he dropped N'dou the first fight.
Cotto is really sitting on his punches trying to take Paulie out and then the knee clash caused the stumble, I dont think he seemed hurt
Cotto vs Malignaggi is one of the CLASSIC BEATDOWNS and the answer is? And I picked PM:-( :-( Sure everyone gets hit vs live opponents, but Cotto steamrolled him through about 9 of 12 rounds and broke his face in multiple places. That says it all. All respect to PM for having the guts and courage to fight on til the final bell. Additionally? Cotto drained his body too much making 140 and that seems to have caused his Chin questions. There is NO EVIDENCE of it beinga problem at 47:nono
I was at the fight and had pretty good seats. I wouldn't say that Paulie "hurt" Cotto in the 10th round, but he did stun him. He hit him with a straight right hand and Cotto went against the ropes and covered up for a few moments. Both men fought great that night but you could tell at the weigh in how badly Cotto was drained trying to make junior welter.
