What came out? Plaster, cement, nothing? Plus they didn't split where there was a seam. If the seams came apart on both gloves then you could suspect tampering.
The decision was in the refs hands. He obviously felt that the gloves were safe enough for Crawford and David at that time so he let the fight continue. I think he did the right thing at that time.

Mike Tyson mentioned that before fights he would try to wear the fightgloves out in the locker room. I suspect that this is a product of something similar intended to give Crawford an advantage. Poor fabrication of the gloves plus an attempt to soften them up produced this result.
