Did they really take out DLH's statue at Staples?

I've heard rumours of the Goldenboy's statue being taken down after his defeat at the hands of Pacquiao. I couldn't find any articles to confirm it but if it's true, then it's truly a ***** move to whomever is responsible for this.

I may not have been rooting for his ass in most of his fights--and I may not have agreed that his bronze likeness would be deserving a spot beside Magic Johnson's and Wayne Gretzky's. However, watching the 3rd episode of DLH-Pac 24/7, came a valid reason that it was mostly due to his enormous charitable efforts in LA.

I would have understood if he was convicted of **** then bit his opponent's ear off during a boxing match-but taking it out all because of his recent loss just makes me want to punch a Staples Center exec in the face (maybe Kupchak even if he had nothing to do with it).

So again, if this is true, I'd like to give a big **** YOU to Staples Management

At the ceremony they spoke alot of his charitable work, so I don't really think it mattered whether he won or lost. They obviously aren't going to just take down a statue.

Weird that they put it back up because the local sports radio stations around here have mentioned that the statue was strangely missing after the Pacquiao fight. Wonder what happened?

 

They should take it down and replace it with one of Pacquiao.

Jack Presscot tried taking it down himself. But alas there was still a candle light vigil from ODLH fans who were still in mourning.

 

Shouldn't be there with those legends in the first place.

Johnson and Gretzky actually had careers in LA. A statue of goldy would be more appropriate in vegas, where he fought. Add to the fact the guy who approved the statue is now a minority business partner makes the addition look more like business then a deserved homage. It reaks of pr more then anything.

 

Does it really affect you like that? The man is clearly a legend in the sport of boxing, and he is from LA. He has represented LA for his entire life, through the Ams, through his Gold Medal, through all of those Championships, ect... along with all of the great charity work that he has done in LA. He is a legend in LA. Really not much more needs to be said about it. It takes a real hater to actually hate on a statue.
