Did You Guys See Any Changes from Cotto?

I saw he was using his jab more often, doubling it up on occasion and he wasn't doing that peek-a-boo defense which made him a sucker for uppercuts. My question is, did anyone see anything different from Cotto and more importantly, did Emanuel Steward make a difference in terms of Cotto's footwork, balance and using the jab?

Foreman is a tough opponent to look good against but what are your thoughts?

 

I thought his defense was much, much tighter but it would be better if I could observe it down the stretch and against someone more offensive. He was sharp as hell anyway.

 

Only thing I saw different was that he wasn't holding his gloves up so ****ing high which has always made him a target for punches down the middle. He still seemed vulnerable for right hands over the top though.

Other than that I didn't see any truly significant changes no matter what the HBO crew was trying to lead you to believe.

 

The only thing the HBO crew wants you to believe is that Amir Khan is one sexy *****.

 

Defense was way better, still needs loads of work but way better. He moved more fluid, less arching over. Had his hands up higher and more consistently. Slightly better footwork. Overrall I see good improvement.

 

Can't argue with that though... Amir Khan's sexiness is just certified fact. :deal

 

If Foreman would have thrown more uppercuts we might have seen if Cotto has managed to fix that gaping hole in his defense. He's been extremely susceptible to uppercuts, as both Pacquiao and Margarito showed.

As it is, his footwork looked good, walking down Foreman whose biggest advantage was supposed to be his footwork. I wish he would have gone to the body more, though. If he'd have done that, he could have taken Foreman's legs away and stopped him without needing to worry about the rabbi damaging his knee. Cotto has never been a swift finisher, getting most of his stoppages in the mid- to late rounds.

He's always had a good jab, though. Watch the Mosley fight and you'll see several times where he outjabs the much speedier Mosley - one of the benefits of being a southpaw that fights in an orthodox stance. Your power hand is your jabbing hand.

 

Oh yea, Lampley was nuthugging Cotto last night in good fashion. I forget what round and what exactly he said about Cotto, but I almost put the stream I was watching on mute....I noticed the right hand as well, it was catching Cotto quite well but perhaps the lack of power allowed Cotto to perhaps, disregard it?

 

The footwork is definetely an improvement, I especially liked it when he switched it up every now and then. His fleet of foot has got him fighting in a rhythm which is causing less of his shots to have the full power behind them since his feet arent always planted. But I like this boxing type Cotto he needs to fight this way @ 154 to be a success. Also his jab is Quartey-esque only he doesnt throw it no where near as much as Bazooka did, its as if he sets all his punches up for the jab.

 

One thing I did like was Cotto's strategy in that fight. Foreman was running around all over the place so instead of chasing him around the ring, Cotto simply waited for Foreman to engage him first and then countereed the **** out of him with heavy powershots.

That was a veteran gameplan on display there folks.

 

his footwork was much better he closed of the ring brilliantly and he didnt drop his hands and try to make it a war he just kept to boxing because it was working never rushed anything i think a few more fights with steward will make a big difference

 

I saw a guy who was getting tagged at will by right hands whenever Foremen threw them. To top it off, it took him 9 rounds to finally stun a one legged fighter with a blown knee and twisted ankle.
