Was watching ESPN FNF last night looking forward to seein this guy heard the hype n seen couple bits on YouTube.Got to be honest thought thought he was over hyped with bit of a padded ko record. But was left seriously impressed how he blew away Elvin Ayala in 1st round,a guy who was a draw with sergio mora and took Abraham till the 12th to ko him(fair enough AA is slow starter).the speed and power of Lemieux especially short left hooks always in position to counter. Wonder anyone elses thoughts on him?I'm thinking destined for world title!
He impressed me, I think he may have caught his opponent a little cold though. He certainly has some good attributes and will be fun to watch.
Compact, Crisp, Counter Punches...Combinations. Beautiful Display Looks tactically aware. Great Finishing Skill. Jab Left Hook Left Uppercut just Like Cotto against Foreman. Rolling Back from Ayala's shots and Coming over top with lead counter right. Had to clap the performance. The boys for real! Hugely Impressed.
Yeah why not. Vera makes or breaks you. As you say it be a brilliant fight while it lasts...it would make his profile bigger if on Major Undercard. He Beat Vera imo...but Vera's a tough guy and will take Lemieux into middle rounds.
I reckon he gets rid of Vera in 2. He can be tough to crack Vera, but Lemieux is for real. I don't see Vera living with that combination of power and offensive skill.
No way Vera gets blown away in two man. He's tougher than that and knows how to survive. It's a good fight for the kid and a decent test.
I mean that was hard enough for any fighter to handle. I like to of seen Ayala take Lemieux into middle rounds after that onslaught to see how he would cope...but his finishing was so good that he didn't need to prove anything else. Vera's tough guy i like to think he'd handle him for a bit longer...like with Kirkland all be it he took an arse whooping there as well.
Watched friday night fights and i've gotta say, Montreal is the new swinging D of boxing going into this decade of raising our fraternity up from the ashes. Not to be outdone by Yankee open air stadium, they hosted Lemieux in basically the same forum. Montreal has a plethora of indoor casinos but chose to get it popping with an outdoor stadium on a Friday no less. To borrow from Young Guns: "I'm a devil on the run, a 6 gun lover, a candle in the wind"! Shouts to Montreal baby! On to David...didn't take long! Lemieux stalks like a young Gman McClellan. Still has a lot to learn especially on the defense end and his chin to chest tuck is pooh pooh, but the kid's got the left hook of a pre-Calzaghe, Lacy. Hopefully he actually studies and bites down on his boxing IQ unlike Jeff no brains Lacy. Dude's got potential for being what, 21, wow!
If Kirkland was a better finisher, he should of had him out in the 2nd. Codrington did, although he's improved since then no doubt.
Vera is the perfect fight to make next. Lemieux looks verygood, not the longest of reaches though, so he will be a destroy or get outfoxed kinda' guy I imagine. Keeps his hands up, which is a good sign. If this guy moves along nicely, coupled with Golovkin, Jacobs vs Pirog, Martinez, Williams.....Middleweight could be interesting again.
I think after the fight David said he took Ayala out because he came to trade. I like that he quickly adapts to situation and deals with Business. I'm excited about this lad.
Just watching the replay of FNF. Ayala tried wrap his hands without the commission and Russ Anber being there. Anber made them wrap while he was there. Just goes to show doesn't it...if Anber didn't kick up the fuss they could of gotten away with that.
