Dillian Whyte Is The Biggest Overachiever In Boxing

I think Parker would have beaten him if not for the headbutt knockdown which Parker seemed to take a few rounds to recover from, and the rough tactics Whyte used. Whyte got a bit lucky that night.

 

Nope he’s fought in the same era as the biggest overachiever Deontay Wilder.. the man basically proved that in the HW division if you have godly power you can pick up boxing in your 20s and still become a long time champion.. If a MW with that same power picked up boxing in their 20s they more than likely would not become a champion due to the skills of the other MWs..

Actually Wilder, Joshua and Whyte all picked up boxing as adults and accomplished more in their division than they would have if they were any other divisions.

 

You're not wrong, it's harder to perform in lower weight classes without skills.

But Wilder was a bit lucky at the same time : his best win is an almost 39 years old Ortiz...

Also, too bad we didn't see a prime Ortiz against a top boxer, but he only started his pro career at 30 years old.

Whyte entered Transnational Boxing Rankings top 5 in December 2018
(with the exception of the months between Povetkin 1 and 2, he has been as high as #4).

So, I think you two are selling him short. Now I would never say the Ring Ratings are the be all and end all of anything. But, he is a British fighter, and he was ranked by the American magazine Ring's top 10 for nearly 5 years. British fighters typically find it hard to get ranked. Compare say Chisora with Kownacki. I'm not even sure Martin made the top 10 during the short period he held the title.

So whilst it's true 5th in the world might seem high to some, he deserves his ranking far more than most that have dipped in and out of the top 10 this last decade.

I still think its impressive how he picked up boxing late and won a bronze medal shortly after.

Eventhough he has freak power. To actually then make a career out of it and become a champion and multi millionaire is still very impressive fir a guy who started that late.

 

Whyte achieved very little.

 

This, he never won a world title, all he really achieved was the ability to draw fans and earn good money, but at a time when there is near unprecedented interest in boxing in the UK that even Chisora past his prime is making millions per fight. So hardly a great achievement.

 

This is the weakest era in boxing - anyone can look like a God in this era.

 

big difference between the two. in the rematch, povetkin looked drained before the fight even started. and so what that he was knocked down twice in the first? he still knocked out whyte!
going by that standard, corrales should not have been allowed to continue after being knocked down twice in the 10th against castillo? if he had, then we would not have witnessed one of the greatest comeback knock outs in the sport's history!
