Dillian Whyte tests positive for banned substance

1,3-dimethylamylamine (as I believe JackEd label it) or methylhexaneamine (DMAA) is a powerful stimulant, like caffeine (which itself comes on and off the banned list) but stronger. As far as I was aware it was quite common knowledge that JackEd contained banned stimulants, and I wouldn't expect a promising pro fighter the calibre of Whyte to be unaware of this, but that seems to be the case.
Then again a lot of training methods/diets used in boxing are ****ing ******ed, so nothing really should surprise me.

JackEd was banned a while ago as (and this is just hearsay) a few people died from overconsumption, the same that can happen with any strong stimulants (eg. that young girl in America with the heart complaint who drank too much Monster), and took off the market. Apparently it's been re-released since without the 1,3-dimethylamylamine. Making it likely no more useful than just taking caffeine before a workout as the rest of the stuff isn't worth a bollocks unless you're already low in L-Arginine.

Anyway the point I'm getting at is this is quite stupid of him not to know, but he used a stimulant (which was very commonly available in shops at the time) during training. Certainly not right to put him in the same boat as those using synthetic testosterone (illegally) and those taking anabolic steroids. A fair penalty would be fining him the purse from his last fight and letting the McDermott fight go ahead.

 

True Gaz but then again if other boxers can do it so can he. Plus he's got more backing then other profressionals. Tough as it is, i'd always check what i consume espicially over the last 12 months. You would think that would get you a bit more thoughtful with regards to intake.

How practical would it be for the BBBofC to have a banned compounds list as well as a banned substance list? ie. actual product names rather than just the ingredients?

Yes.

A list of all banned substances and all the known names they might go under. Pop it in the post to everyone that holds a license and send it to every new fighter licensed.

Better than nothing.

 

It'd be a pig of a job but even an incomplete list that contained a percentage of the problem brands would be better than nothing.

Yep good idea Gaz, I'd go with it.

There's a few lads out there who stupidly took banned substances. But most know there doing it and think they can get by on the sly.

Does the ban mean no gym time?. Because really and truly some fighters only fight once every 4-5 months anyways so the fine hits them a bit if there not a massive earner but the time out doesn't if they still can train etc. So the risk of using stuff that's banned isn't as harsh on them as it needs to be if they are allowed into gym to train and spar etc.

Edit: Pretty sure Larry O still trains in gyms so musn't stop them..

 

Having a list of products is difficult because new products are created very regularly and every time one is made the board would have to send a letter to the 860 or so licensed boxers. Probably over the course of a year or so it would cost significant amounts financially.

With this method you also have to cover every product, if one brand slips through and some boxers are using it how can you ban them if they have a list of products and theyre abiding by that list.

Difficult situation like.

 

TBH Mand I think theres every chance gym bans might turn out to be illegal, maybe they could ban any other license holder from working, training, sparring etc with the boxer but even that might be unenforcable.

What I mean Joe was more of an advisory list.

Like "this isn't an exhaustive list but we know the following brands contain banned sustances. It is still the responsibility of the boxer to monitor the brands not on this list when taking supplements"

 

jack3d has only been banned for two months but the ingredient was banned years ago. yohan blake was banned for this ingredient 2 years ago so its no excuse, i am sure Dillian knew what he was doing and thought he would get away with it. think about it jack3d wasnt banned when tony dobson was banned for that ingredient so if he had checked the ingredient out he would have known it was banned long ago
