Are you sure about this? In the interview I have with him he states that it irritates him that Greb was considered the dirtier fighter.

In other words he felt it was HE who should wear the garland! Lol....

Greb wasnt nearly as dirty as he is reputed to be. His chief dirty tactic was holding an opponent and he relied on this only late in his career when he was blind in one eye and had no depth perception. For a guy as supposedly dirty as he was its hard to believe he would have only been DQd once (and that was debateable) fighting 300 fights and usually in his opponents backyard. If he were that dirty they would have DQd the **** out of him just to get a W on the hometown boys record.

'I'd give 'em the head, choke 'em, hit 'em in the balls, but never in my life used my thumb because i wanted no one to use it on me. But they accused me of that'

'i used to bang 'em up pretty good. You're fighting, you're not playing the piano, you know.'

Fritzie Zivic on his resourceful fighting style.

Well you know more about him than the rest of us, but is the lack of dsq's a reliable guide?
Zivic was never dsq'd. Saddler only once.Pedroza never, and filthy Galento only twice. Maybe Norfolk was as dirty as Greb is supposed to be, maybe he was worse?

Holyfield has never been dsq'd either, but his head features prominently in many fights.
Max Baer was prone to the odd backhander. Foreman to the punch when they were down. Bummy Davis and Fritzie must have been something to see.

I think its a pretty clear indicator. I have all of the available fights on Zivic as well and he wasnt overly dirty either, at least not in the footage (granted thats only a handfull of a fights).

Duodenum, with all due respect, Larry Holmes hardly qualifies as a dirty fighter.

I mean, of all the opponents he faced, he's gonna think he has to resort to thumbs against guys like LeDoux and Frank? Come on.......

The video is all modern big name guys...given that..i dont see why mike tyson wasnt included. Prime tyson was dirty in a smart way....elbows mostly...some low blows...but post prison tyson was dirty as hell..trying to arm bar guys..and of course the obvious ear biting.

Sal, I was just looking for the clip where Scott is interviewed following his challenge of Holmes, as that was when the slow motion replay of the knockdown showed the angle at which Larry's right thumb was very clearly extended for jabbing into LeDoux's eye. If there were instant replays in boxing, Holmes would have been heavily penalized for that, and the knockdown would not have been allowed to count. Not that it made any kind of difference, as Scott was way out of his league, but that was the most blatantly intentional thumb I've ever seen in a boxing ring on television. (None of the current extant youtube clips show that post fight interview and accompanying isolated angle in slow motion at present. But ABC's Chris Schenkel, who conducted the interview with Scott, had to admit when watching it with LeDoux and company, that there was indeed "an extended digit, a thumb" obviously pointing towards LeDoux'x eye when Larry drove it in.)

Yes s , that was one of Graziano's favorite moves..Rocky when he had a man hurt and against the ropes, he would grab his opponent under the chin with his left hand, and teeoff with his right hand on the guys jaw..
Deadly it was ! Saw him do it a few times..Rocky might have been the best street fighter of his weight...
