Round 8 goes to Maciel for sure. He's getting some good offense in. I think his strategy is to preserve himself for bursts like that when he sees the opportunity and score quality shots. Good body work as well.

Pirog is intent on coming back, and lands a few nice left hooks around Maciel's guard. Looping overhand right by Maciel lands on Pirog's back. Stiff jab by Pirog, and a right cross hits Maciel's gloves. Pirog keeps pumping the right now as a lead. Maciel can't block them all, they're too powerful and getting through. Maciel backs up. Pirog works his hands on the inside and Maciel parries. VICIOUS body punches by Maciel. Pirog desperately shoulder-tackles Maciel and gets warned by Benji Estevez. They exchange body hooks. Maciel jabs up high and Pirog ducks, taking the jab across the side of his throat. Maciel presses the action. They land right crosses simultaneously, Pirog's is harder. Maciel shakes it off very well though. The British commentator says he has a great poker-face. Good call. Maciel with a RJJ leaping left hook, doesn't quite pull it off. Pirog looks very uncomfortable. 1-2 by Pirog, and left hook to the body. Maciel lands a jab and misses an uppercut.

-Maciel is backing up and sticking his jab. Pirog is diving down low and landing body shots. Maciel is landing jabs, though. Close round halfway through, mainly because not much is happening to break that pattern. Maciel is boxing well backward, and Pirog is applying good awkward pressure. The crowd starts to roar, thinking Maciel might be hurt. Pirog has a point taken away for elbowing!!!! Wow. Benji Estevez warned him about the shoulder, but not specifically the elbow. I guess he's just trying to keep control of the fight and discourage rough-housing. Big right hand by Maciel! Pirog shrinks up behind his Mayweather defense and Maciel fires away at him.

So, 10-9 Pirog round but a point deduction makes it 9-9.
