Do "British stoppages" by UK referees tend to favor the UK fighter?

That's absolutely correct. Refs were far better in the old days, pre-1960s, even when I started following boxing closely in the early 80s (Joey Curtis excepted, of course). They let the fighters decide the outcome, with their fists, as it should be.

Yes but Babic's punch resistance has declined far below the level that we typically see in British gyms and he can no longer take a pop on the whiskers.

His brains were scrambled. We all knew the conclusion. Better to prevent further brain damage or death

The ref asks fighters to walk towards him. Not stumble into him.

Babic was gone. Good stoppage preventing potentially serious injury.

Yes Brit stoppages are absolutely a thing. This just wasn't one of them.

You know, there's actually the opposite thing of a British stoppage. There's a Japanese stoppage which used to happen in the old days of Pride MMA fighting. That's when they would give the Japanese home fighter every possible chance of pulling out a surprise come from behind win even when his face was hamburgerized and an eyeball was hanging out of a socket. Usually just resulted in grievous damage though. That just came to me now.

Yeah, that didn't look like a bad stoppage to me at all. After he got to his feet, he was practically running to keep from falling back down.

i think its important for referees to have context for both fighters and have watched their prior fights. if i was reffing i wouldve stopped the fight the same way because babic has a bad chin as seen in the rozanski fight and johnny fisher was throwing big bombs. if the ref knows who hes in the ring with he can better do his job.

what is it 1720 something when the first international boxing match ended with the foreign, though having knocked down the Englishman several times prior and being on his feet at the time of the call was considered KO'd the first time he was sent down.

He left saying no non-english would ever get a fair ref out of the english.
