earlier in the general forum Widdow Maker was arguing that Haye is famous in the UK because of the klitschkos, because he keeps mentioning their names and because of the whole wlad situation, i told him casual fans here dont know the klitschko's. No one i know who dont watch boxing or are casual fans know who the klits are, my cousin whos a casual fan watches froch, khan, haye, degale and most other british fights says he's heard of the 'klitschkovs' but never seen either fight. from your experiences what do you think? do the british public know who the klits are? and is Haye famous because of them?
The few of my mates who know who they are don't even know their names. It's always 'Those 2 big Russian brothers' or 'The Drago brothers'.
They know there are big Russians called Klitchsko. Few can differentiate between who is Wlad and who is Vitali. They simply know there is a champ called Klitchsko who HAye is supposed to be fighting but don't know when or where.
I reckon plenty of people have heard of them. My mates are pretty standard casual boxing fans, bar a couple who know what they're on about... they watch the big fights, etc. Anyway, they pretty much all know who the Klitschkos are and a fair few have seen at least one of them fight on Sky Sports. Barely any of them who Carl Froch is though, it's ****ed up.
That particular event win still resonates throughout Britain. I'd say the public do know them but not anything in particular. It's a case of "Oh yeah, those big blokes. Which one is the good one again?" or something along those lines
One of my friends who doesn't follow boxing has heard of them... but he can't pronounce their names (he's dyslexic). He's like the others mentioned here, although he has zero interest so the fact that he has is impressive.
When you are out in the pub, or in town. Just randomly ask people weather..."They know who Wladimir Kiltschko & Vitaili Kiltschko are............."
they probably dont knw them imo....but on the flipside haye appart the general public probably cdnt name you 5 active H.W's........ its bad!
unless you have sky sports or watch sky sports news you will have no idea of anything going on in the boxing world imo.
Casual fans that I know of have heard of them all. Probably not sure of their Vitali from their Wlad but they know of the Klitschko's. Not quite the same knowing as Mike Tyson had though - everybody knew who he was. Haye isn't aswell known as Frank Bruno or Lennox Lewis and they retired years ago.
