Do you know much about Chad Dawson? If so, how good is he?

I've been watching Chad since I saw his pro debut.

I believe he is top 20 pound for pound and will eventually be the man at 175, make a quick stop a cruiser and will be a heavyweight by 2010.

As long as his chin doesn't fail him at the higher weights, he will be the games top fighter when Floyd retires.

Why would he be a heavyweight? He weighs 175... is a slim kid as it is. He used to fight at 160. He is in his mid 20's now. You do not naturally in your mid 20's just go up to 215 all of a sudden so any way he goes to heavyweight woul dbe extremely unnatural.

Dawson is currently the LHW flavor of the month here in ESB. Before that it was Adamek and before that it was Paul Briggs.

I just saw him fight for the first time against Adameck. I'm impressed.

The guy's got heart. He doesn't run. He stands in there in fights even when it's not in his best interest to do so. Case in point. After he was knocked down by Adameck by a right in the 10th, his trainer Mayweather told him to just run in the 11th round to tire Adameck out because they knew he would try for the KO. What does Chad do to start the 11th? He throws a left and a right body shot with bad intentions.

His offense is incredible. Hand speed almost as fast as RJJ right now. He puts together great combinations. Nice upper cut.

Looks like we got a new star in boxing.

Jesus christ another Chad Dawson thread.

So far i've seen in this thread

    "Future ATG"
    "I have him in my top10 p4p"
"Most skilled fighter from welter to HW"

    All from American posters.

As soon as anyone on this forum who is american gets a WHIFF of a decent fighter they hype up up beyond all recognition a la Lacy, and yes I am going to compare him to Lacy because not a single person on here pre-calzaghe had a bad word to say about him and in fact Lacy has actually done a hell of a lot more.

It's a shame really because not all the Americans on the forum are like that, but a lot.

I'd never even heard of Chad Dawson till the Adamek fight. Since then ive gone and watched his last 4 fights against Adamek, Harding, Mendoza and Ruiz. Its clear that this guy has talent, he's fast, he's tall and has a good jab. Overall very good skillset.

    However

To call him the above things after what hes done so far is folly. He's done nothing to show he's p4p material, hasnt had any big fights, and from what i'v seen has a leaky defense and a sub-par chin.

Comparing him to Calzaghe at the moment is nonsensical. If Dawson fought Calzaghe tomorrow he'd get whipped so bad that Chad would have to go round Joe's house every Sunday and wash his cars.

    To round up

    CHAD DAWSON HAS POTENTIAL

But he hasnt shown me anything yet to say he'd be able to mix it with the top boys or that he will be a future p4p or atg star, not to say he wont be.

Well Dawson's the real deal, he's not just flavor of the month. You know guys like Adamek and Briggs were limited in their skills and had no potential to be great or the face in the LHW division.

Actually, I was one who repeatedly stated even back when Chad was 160 (when I trained him) that we should move to 168 (his promoter was against it at the time) and fight Jeff Lacy instead of waiting for Taylor. I knew what we had in him back then and I knew (felt, anyway) that Jeff didn't have the style to beat Chad.
