I have Martinez above Pac and Floyd.

    1. Martinez
    2. Pac
    3. Floyd

Reason? Martinez is beating relatively better competition than Pac and does not use his drawing power to gain every advantage he can over them.

    Williams, Pavlik, Dzinziruk

    Better than,

    Cotto, Clottey, Margarito

this forum is nuts. Every fight, people completely change their minds. It's unbelievable.

If Martinez, a middleweight, was #4 or #5 p4p before this win.

And then he destroys a guy who was maybe around #40 on a p4p list. He doesn't beat him at his weightclass, 154, where he is considered a top40 p4p fighter, but rather 6 pounds above his best weight.

How does that bolt him up to #1? It doesn't.

Yes, of course. Mayweather has to fight to be above him.

For me personally the p4p list should represent who the best active boxer in the world.
Some people seem to base it entirely on recent results but I think that ability & overall career should have more of a bearing.

    My p4p list would go 1. FMJr 2. Manny 3. Sergio 4.B-hop 5.JMM

Its all personal preference but I dont think Donaire has done enough to get a spot in the top5.

Donaire destroyed both Darchinyan and Montiel at Flyweight and Bantamweight, respectively. He is a 2 time champ across 3 divisions and has won both his championships against top 10 p4p fighters in their primes at their best weights while they were champions.

He didn't just win those titles, he ripped them out of the hands of some dominant champions.

Martinez fought Cintron..we will know he won, Paul Williams 1 most people had him winning, Kelly Pavlik W, KO'd Williams in their 2nd fight and now beat Dzi by TKO. All that in 2 years.

You have Donaire who KO'd Darchinyan in 2007 and now KO'd Montiel this year over Martinez?

    Come on

Yep, rather than changing my mind every week & after every fight like a schoolgirl's taste in the latest boy-bands by p4p list takes a more long-term perspective on things.

Even though he drew (controversially) with Pascal in his most recent fight Hopkins is defintaly one of the best 5 fighters walking the face of the earth today. He's proved it time and again.

There are other fighters with greater accomplishments, past & recent.

The criteria I use for composing a p4p list seems to be different from most people on esb.

Bernard Hopkins is the biggest "Pound 4 Pound" Fake in the history of Boxing :deal

First lets define what the term "Pound for Pound" means. It captures all attributes of the fighter, except size. Meaning if any two fighters were the same size, who would win?

Bernard Hopkins has the frame of a light heavyweight. He states himself that his body is naturally a 175lb frame and the only reason he fought at middle is because he felt he could make more money there. (I think he was disciplined enough to make the weight easy enough for so long and enjoyed always having a size advantage).

    His biggest wins:
Tito: Who was prime at 147 and 154, and never great at 160. Not even close.
Hoya: Who was prime at 147 and lower, great at 154, **** at 160.
Winky: Who was prime at 154, good at middleweight.....oh but him, Hopkins fought above 160
Pavlik: Who was a very good middleweight, and middleweight champ....too bad Hopkins fought him above middleweight also.

What happened when he fought guys at his own weight?
    Jones beat him
    Taylor beat him.....twice
    Calzaghe beat him

Oh and he's 5-3-1 in his last 9 fights. Oh yeah, he's #4 P4P :patsch

Mo, my criteria is different too. I rank 100% on current ability, pound for pound. I think Donaire at 118 is right now really an amazing fighter. Martinez at 160 is very good but not on that level imo

Very true. Except he was #3 before this fight, and I'm replacing FMJ with him due to FMJ's severe lack of activity. The dude is practically retired! Serge has been fighting & dominating the best for the past 2 years. In the past 2 years, Floyd's fought... Shane Mosley. So my personal Top 3:

    1. Pac
    2. Martinez
    3. Mayweather
