Do you think a guy like Cory Spinks would beat Floyd Mayweather at 154 lbs ?

Then maybe Floyd should go for such a challenge if Pacquiao can't be made.

 

Cory Spinks has no chance to beat Mayweather. Floyd is too fast and is actually stronger than Spinks.

 

A few years ago (like '06-'07 or earlier), I said he could have, and stand by that.

NOW? The current version of Cory with his feet stuck in quicksand will be lucky to get by K-9, forget about Mayweather.

 

By curiosity, what makes you think he could have done it in 2006 or before ?

 

Similar skillset and dimensions. Despite being a bit athletic (or perhaps because of this) he seemed to be a bit slicker in his prime, doing more with less.

I'd say no, but the back of mind thinks that I because I hate Spinks' boring ass a hundred times more than Mayweather's that he'd be the one to do it in his always unspectacular way.

 

Spinks of today doesnt have a chance IMO.

Cory has slipped in the movement department which was one of his best attributes...He really never had any power to begin with so I dont see him gaining Mayweather respect if the fight were to take place.

Also, Cory might kill himself just to make weight meaning he'll be tired by fight night trying to get himself down the JR. MW limit....He has a history of going up to 190-200 lbs.

Just dont see this as a competitive fight at all given the background on both fighters!

Years ago would have been a different story...It would have been a lot closer IMO.

 

Prime spinks gives Floyd problems at 147 and at 154, his style would rob Floyd of countering and make him be the aggressor.

Spinks could NEVER beat Floyd. He can't outbox him. He doesn't have any power. He runs. Just an awful fighter to watch.

 

Spinks is an excellent pure boxer, it would be a fun chess match to watch, those who want to see head banging would be disappointed, but I"m sure Spinks would be extremely difficult. It is one thing to sit back and counter everyone or try to pot shot a slower bigger guy, but when you have a guy that can out pot shot anyone and you have to switch up your game entirely to cut off the ring and turn into a power puncher, it would be very interesting.

 

Indeed! Prime Spinks would have been a competitive fight (boring though) but as soon as Cunningham left him his career was over. He left him bc Spinks lost his hunger and dedication.

Right now, Spinks gets beaten badly. He's horribly faded at this point. In his prime, he'd do well for a few rounds until Mayweather gets his timing down and decides to be more aggressive/assertive.

Even in their primes he aint beating mayweather, no way. He might win a few early rounds but that is it. It really depends on your definition of 'give mayweather problems' because if mayweather looses a few rounds like the zab fight people make a huge deal of it. I could see spinks wining a few but it would be an easy fight once mayweather adjusts to it.
