WELLLLL, HBO almost did, they were trying to hype him up a lot b4 the Cintron fight, and they are trying again, though a bit more cautious.
It wasn't exactly a blow out and it seems as if Cintron found something with his new trainer. As I said, I don't remember if it was Kellerman saying it or not, but Angulo was either sick during training camp, sick during the fight, or had trouble making weight. Either of those could have contributed to Angulo's performance. Cintron did in fact do fairly decent against Sergio Martinez (even though he did lose by KO and the draw was BS). This is also the same Cintron that was beating Paul Williams before that freak scenario that occurred during their fight. So no, I don't share your opinion of losing to Cintron as automatically meaning that one is overrated.
Cotto looked very comfortable at 154. I know, Angulo too big, too strong....heard that already with Foreman being too big, fast, strong. Cotto was breaking him down like the good old days. Both nostrils were bleeding and he coughed out his mouth piece twice I believe. If it was not for his knee, he would have slowed down due to not breathing through his nose. He does the same thing to Angulo and then comes... Still, much respect for Foreman for his brave performance. That could possibly have been career ending injury. That knee buckled badly. I could only imagine how much pain he was in.
It's a hell of a lot better than "Cotto would blast Angulo." Although I don't envision the same scenario as you if they were to fight. Going to the body would mean Cotto would have to stand his ground more than in an attempt of out boxing Angulo. That in itself would put Cotto right in line with what is Angulo's best bet at beating Cotto. Angulo would love to lure Cotto into some exchanges where his better punch resistance and inside fighting would be enough to wear Cotto down. I still don't think Cotto will be as effective at '54 since he is kind of small for that weight. Either way it would be a good scrap and I wouldn't mind seeing it. At this point if they were to fight, I would say that Cotto would be leading for the first couple of rounds with Angulo wearing him down late and winning by stoppage.
Many posters wanted to know if Cotto would listen and execute the fight plan. He did. Everyone was happy and I believe he will be very comfortable at this weight and will get better. I feel the opposite will happen as far as your predicton of how and who will win. I truly believe Cotto will outbox and tire Mr. Angulo and then attack in spurts. Cotto could be another Vlad in the making as far as a student of the game with Manny.
It would be a good fight to see. If Cotto wins then hopefully we could see a rematch between him and Margarito at 154
Beat me to it Maxx. Nothing wrong with getting staggered by Cintron, he's a good puncher, but Gutierrez isn't much of one I don't think.
