Then it wouldn't be HW. The whole point is no weight limits. HW isn't a weight class its boxing 1.0.

There were 2 attempts to create a super heavyweight division. Both failed almost right away. Why would the best superheavys go there instead of HW? At least with CW and BW theres the idea they are smaller and could be more successful but why would a Super Heavy care about that when the implication is they could beat up everyone at HW and the smaller Heavys need to be protected from them?

I don’t think it’d change much. You’d need to make the limit something like 280-290 lbs at least to let guys like Joyce, Zhang, Fury etc compete, and that’s still plenty enough for most HWs to not bother getting in-shape.

Just promote the CW / Bridgerweight divisions more, there are so many fat HWs that could easily cut down to CW or BW divisions if they had even half the hype of HWs.

There’s no actual reason for people like Chisora and Wilder to be in the same division with a guy like Tyson Fury.

No. There are way too many weight divisions already.

Must admit, I like Zuffa's idea of keeping to the main divisions and ignoring the junior divisions.

A world boxing champion used to be something to be. Now if you don't a have a title belt you are virtually a nobody.

I used to think this but after seeing Usyk beat Fury and Joshua twice I dont

I like idea of the Heavyweight division being the top fighter in the world no weight limit

    No restrictions.

Honestly, I would just keep it simple.

You don't fight within 6 months, you lose your ranking.
Your next fight can re-rank you (depending on quality of opponent).

As a belt holder, you become champion-emeritus. The belt goes vacant or to #1 (situation dependent). Champion-emeritus has the right to fight in the next available final eliminator or for the title (but loses the financial split advantage they would have had as champion).

This is just off the top of my head, but it can't work any worse than the stagnant hell scape we have right now

There is just no excuse for guys being unable to fight less than twice a year. "But he's too old..." sorry, the sport isn't for him no more if he can't keep up the minimal schedule

I would add something to prevent worthless fluff matches... Whilst we're being idealistic.

Fighting someone ranked more than, what, 20? 25? places below you, say, probably shouldn't count as proper activity.

That's not to say we'll still always get good fights, each org has multiple guys way higher than they really should be...
But it should prevent top contenders from wasting time fighting opponents who they should blow out fast and who have no business being in there with them (eg. Joshua fighting Jake shouldn't keep him ticking over as active, Kabayel fighting Knyba likewise, etc).

Not necessarily "the sport isn't for you" but simply if you can't handle the fast lane where the belts are, then you're not going to be a champion.

    Which is fine.

No, fat blobs can't box 12 rounds. It's a self regulating system.

That would be a good idea if you kept the 4 belt system.

Killing tweeners and going back to 1 belt would be horrible and kill the sport even without all of Zuffas other dystopian changes.

World titles would be valued again. Instead of being just collected like playing cards.

Too valued. Dozens of great fighters would never fight for a title and get a chance. We've been down this road before and it wasn't a happy time.

Dozens of ordinary fighters hold titles.

There's a belt for everyone under the current system.

I'm inclined to blame the decisions the alphabet bodies make instead of the system. All that can be fixed by simply making good decisions and abandoning the mandatory system. Restrict stripping.

The alphabet bodies have effectively split the world into 4 worlds and largely structured their rankings along those lines.

There is only one world and there should only be one world champion in each division. But the world has been naive enough to have been sold 4 pups.

This thread topic comes up a few times a year ... there's usually a few Andy Ruiz related jokes ... and people answer no on the whole. It'll come up again in a few months or half a year.
