Does a win over Haye improve Wladimir's atg heavyweight standing?

Haye has achieved more in his career than Cooney did, so its not the same.

No one coming out of this weal ass division will ever be recognized as an ATG. Especially the non-unifying KLIT sisters whove held the belts hostage refusing to unify.

They can make a lot of money, but no formal recognition for losing to the only ATG either has ever faced, LENNOX LEWIS.

 

Which means that if Wlad beat Haye, it would be an even greater boost to Wlad's legacy than Cooney was to Holmes, if that is the case.

 

Yes it will be a greater boost than Cooney was to Holmes, but Holmes has a far better resume than Wladimir overall. Even if you took the Cooney fight away from Holmes career, it would still be a lot better than Wlads

Haye has done nothing impressive at the HW division. If he wins this fight against Wlad then it can be considered his first great achivement so far.

 

Probably as much as Lacy ended up doing for Calzaghe's.

 

Uh...yeah. At this point, any old routine defense makes little bits of difference in how his heavyweight ranking stands. That it's a big name fighter means that much more. Wlad's reign is much more Holmes than Foreman. It's a consistency and longevity thing. He's got no ATG wins. He probably never gets one either. But he's built up several B- to B+ wins. Solid stuff. Byrd, Chagaev, Ibragimov, Chambers, Haye (if), none have a majority image as great fighters but all very solid. Every little bit helps.

 

The sad truth is that it's likely that after Wlad handles Haye with relative ease, Haye's stock will fall down more than Wlad's will be lifted up. That is, Haye will be viewed as more of a HW pretender. Which means Wlad will not overly benefit from having defeated Haye.

But, if nothing else, it should disabuse Haye fans and Anti-Klitschko Nation of the notion that Haye is their Savior.

Probably a little. Given what Haye has actually accomplished at HW, a Wlad win will simply be another 'good' win (not great or even very good imo) though probably one of Wlad's better wins.

 

Wlad doesn't have an ATG standing. He can't seriously be considered amongst the 50 or 100 greatest fighters in the history of the sport. So unless someone's ATG list stretches into triple figures, I don't really understand this debate. Wlad's claim to fame is consistency, because of a lack of competion. Beating the WBA titlist and former lineal CW champ will give Wlad his greatest win against his most prestigious foe. And vice-a-versa for Haye - who will then arguabley be the lineal champ at two weights.

 

Come on man, comparing Lacy and Haye is just nonsense.

 

ATG as a heavyweight. He's routinely in the top 20 heavies lists. Even with the hardasses on the general forum. I don't know as anyone's talking p4p. Anyone particularly sane anyway.
