Maybe AM hasnt had the big fights, cause many of the best WWs simply ducked him. . . DLH, Fraud, Zab. Shane (at least Shane was honest though). He vetoed Arums plan of giving him a showcase fight and instead faced PW, he paid with his belt - but that kinda move is exactly what Im talking about. If you cant appreciate that then you arent a fan of the sport. You are way off on Shane, him turning down the third DLH fight was on principle. . . he would have still made much more facing DLH than Winky. Fraud likes to make up stuff about calling out Shane years ago, as if Shane would have ducked a JLW moving up. atsch
How do you really know that? He's been on SHO quite a bit. And was on HBO as well. Not to mention, HBO desaerves a ton of credit for their promotions. Take away 24/7, numbers go WAAY down IMHO. Besides, just having Hatton who he is made the fight that much more interesting. White vs. Black, UK vs. US. Two undefeated fighters in theor primes. Think Mayweather vs. Clottey does 800K buys? Doubtful.
He's turned down his fair share of fighters as well. No he wasnt' I have no problem with Margarito. The guy is trying to make it big in the sport, I have no problem with that. Also, Margarito was paid more for the Williams fight than he would've gotten to fight Cotto. "You are way off on Shane, him turning down the third DLH fight was on principle. . . he would have still made much more facing DLH than Winky. Fraud likes to make up stuff about calling out Shane years ago, as if Shane would have ducked a JLW moving up." He turned down the Hoya fight beacause of money, I never said other wise. Floyd did call out Shane years ago, he also called him out when he was at 140 and 147. Shane didn't think Floyd was popular enough to consider until Floyd was at 147. That proposed fight for Nov. of 2006 was scrapped because of money issues
Hatton wasn't close to selling out his 3 preceeding fights in America before fighting Floyd. He couldn't sell out these fights despite the fact that Brits had unlimited access to tickets. About 10,000 tickets were sold for the Castillo fight. About 7,000 of those fans were from the U.K. This tells me that U.S fans aren't that interested in Hatton. His rae and nationality help to sell a fight with Floyd, but Floyd could do big numbers without him. Remember, he did over 300k against Baldo. This was before the Hoya fight.
Ishe Smith, Winky Wright, Kasim Ouma, and Jose Antonio Rivera all alled out Margo when he was going around calling himself the most dangerous WW. Of course, he expressed no interest in fighting any of them "you tell Bob Arum to give us $8M and we'll fight Margarito in November." This came right out of Jin Mosley's mouth. I'll find the proof in a little bit.
The back story involved w/ Hatton helped as I stated. Floyd against anyone but Cotto or Mosley probably doesn't top 400K.
Please Reg. Lets not act as if a call out means anything. Ishe's desperate to fight anyone. ONe of the most least deserving 'names' in boxing he is. The rest aren't even WW's. Too bad she isn't the fighter.
Ishe? I dont want to see any fighter have to chase that runner ever again. Winky was bogus offer, Winky ended up turning down 4 mil. AM claims to be the best WW, then you have JMW's asking for the same 8 mil offer Arum gave Fraud - as if the math is the same. then let Jin get in the ring I'll find the proof in a little bit.[/quote]
This type of thinking is exactly why Floyd never fought Margo. As far as he's concerned, Margarito isn't a deserving name. No, she's his manager. Manager's have a vital role in making fights. If Leonard Elerbe makes a statement about Floyd fighting someone, you all act as though Floyd said it.
How was Winky's offer bogus? He countered with a career high payday for Margo and was turned down. She's his manager. You come on here and constantly claim Mayweather ducked a MW when he was at JWW based on his promoter being unable to come to terms with Wright's promoter. If you're going to hold fighters responsible for what their teams do/say then you have to do it all the time. You can't just pick and chose in order to suit your agenda.
There's a difference between a fighter saying another fighter isn't deserving and the reality of the situation. Margarito was, at the time, and still is, one of the top WW's. If Mayweather said Cotto wasn't deserving, would that make it true? Sorry, I'm not that type of poster.
Are youy asking this to argue? Reg, you know what happened right? You are aware Arum made Winky an offer, only to have Winky turn it down and come back later with GBP behind him. WTF is up that? In what universe, does that even make an iota of sense? ESPECIALLY considering the realtionship between Top Rank and GBP at the time. Anyway, Margqarito is a WW and is oding fine right now. There was no need to go to 154 when 147 is where it's at. And where he's at his best. And you're taking the comments about Jin too seriously. Obviously I, as well as Ramshall 1, were kidding about that.
