Does anyone else think Calzaghe declined from the Kessler to Hopkins fight?

It really is weird the way that so many people show sudden physical decline or have "off-nights" when they fight a defensive, counterpunching Master Boxer. Weird.

Styles makes fights, and Kessler was made for Calzaghe.

    Hopkins clearly was not.

I don't think Calzaghe has declined from the Kessler fight.

I'm saying he underestimated him because he thought he was old and past it, not as two separate qualifications. And its not strictly the same as taking him lightly. Taking him lightly would be negating anything he brought to the table where I'm specifically referring to the age factor, nothing about skill and strength.

That's hardly relevant. Hatton clearly knew he was in the fight of his life while Calzaghe was clearly underestimating Hopkins. And lame emotes don't exactly add to validity of your argument.

Those go hand and hand. If he thought Hopkins was old and past it, then he would've had to believe that hi skills were in decline. That's basically taking him lightly.

You saying clearly doesn't add any validity to your argument. You said Calzaghe took Hopkins lightly and used his sparring partner as proof of this assertion. I countered this argument by giving an example of a guy taking on the best fighter in the world and still using no name sparring partners. The implication is clear, using no name sparring partners is not proof that you're underestimating your opponent. Fighters do this all the time.

If anything hopkins' skills have gotten better with age not declined as he has used them to compensate for his physical declination.

Clearly is simply a space saving device instead of writing an essay of evidence that both of us, being boxing fans, are already aware of from the articles we've read and footage we've seen. The mindset of Hatton going into his fight with mayweather and calzaghe against hopkins were very very different. If we're going into the appropriatness of individual words then there's little point debating actual boxing.

The 'no name' part of my point isn't the important part. My point about the sparring partner is that he was young and inexperienced and an obvious poor choice. The guy was used because he was part of Enzo's stable.

And besides, I believe my words were something along the lines of 'adding weight'... I never claimed a sparring partner was proof of anything.
