I agree. I think Nacho telling Juan that he was winning the fight was one of the worst things he could've said. You don't coast the match against the champion, especially if it's the number 1 fighter in the world. Look what Nonito did to Montiel, Pacquiao did to Cotto, Marg did to Cotto, Shane did to Margarito, Floyd did to Shane, Oscar did to Vargas, Cotto did to Mayorga. They pressed the fight and made sure as hell that they won. Marquez did not, and that was his mistake for the first 2 fights. He only counterpunched and did not capitalize much on anything else. Constantly fighting backing up is just not gonna win the hearts of the judges.
I'm watchig it right now so far I give Pac 1st 3rnds. Other then the 4th when Marquez landed the right hand at the end of the round Pac was winning the round. Alot of Mexican fans yelling when JMM doesnt even land. JMM def won the 5th rnd. still observing, and watching closely
This works both ways. Pac got paid 22 million to stay back and fence with a guy who is generally known for counter-punching, and who enjoyed success against Pac in his two previous fights when he let Pac come to him. In response, Pac tried to rely more upon his boxing in this fight, and was aggressive only in spurts. That made the fight more tactical than the other two affairs. But in and of itself, especially in the latter portion of the fight, it was still a fun fight to watch. Maybe I could think of a dozen fights that were better, or more exciting. But lemme tell...there were hundreds of fights that were much worse in terms of quality or action.
People don't appreciate the defensive skills as much. This fight had that in abundance. It's harder to display as high a level of defense while being on the attack but I think Marquez had a few more bruises than Pac at the end and the judges rewarded Pac for doing both. This has been a trend since the UFC started making inroads. Nothing new. Neither guy was ever really hurt.
people claiming robbery speaks non sense, it was a close fight but the judges reward the aggressor who happens to be the champ. It could go either way, but the scorecard 116-112 is kind of absurd.
The judges had the right score, but the wrong fighter. It was a close fight but JMM left the bigger impression plus being a huge underdog.
Clearly Pacquaio landed his share of punches look at JMMs face. Jmm was already bruised as early as the 2nd round. But did you see or notice the punch that caused those? Be honest as an impartial fan, who had the more significant clean shots? JMM. The ones where boxing fans can say "whoah" thats a nice shot! JMM. This fight was disppointing because it was really a boring fight, partly because of Pac who wouldnt engage or attack and JMM content at throwing 20 punches a round. Bottom line is I cant give Pacquaio more than 5 rounds in that fight.
you are correct those short punches from pac was really sneaky ones, that was one of the reasons why i initially score it for marquez, but after watching it again that i realized he did connect some pretty good punches. :good
It was a close fight. The fact that 1 judge scored it 114-114 while another scored it 115-113 only shows that it was indeed a close fight that could go either way. I guess it's just the 116-112 Pacquiao score that made people think it was a robbery.
I guess the judges sitting ring side must have. That is one reason I'm reluctant to bash too much on judges. I've been to a few fights and the closer I get the more different the fight looks. Maybe having watched Kelly I've become more aware of effective punches vs flashy punches. But, not lots of effective punches in this fight. Good defensive skills. Most here don't appreciate a fight unless too guys can't avoid getting punched. Both did a good job avoiding, picking off and nullifying the impact. Marquez's punches kept Pac off balance but that was about the extent of it. I really don't care what they looked like. One of his best punches just backed Pac for a second and Pac was right back in.
Ill have to agree with this statement, they definitely are seing things you dont see on TV. Even Steward who usually leans on undermining Pac really didnt say much and actually questioned Nachos strategy.
