Does anyone find it strange that Johnny Nelson's nickname was "the Entertainer"?

Wasn't that Fidel Castro Smith's original nickname ?

Boy tho, you throw Nelson and Terrell together you would probably have an all-out slugfest! right?

Back when Nelson first turned pro, a nickname on a poster might encourage a bit of walk up custom. The Entertainer tag was actually pinched of London Welter Vernon Vanreil who was, despite being slightly below British Title standard, was in some good fights.

Well we could live in hope ! In fairness, the latter day Nelson could be good value for a decent fight so maybe these two spiders might just thrill us !

well, that does make sense. He should have showed some honesty and changed his name though. I honestly cannot think of a more boring fighter to watch. Watch Terrell fights, and you'll bellyache. Then watch a bunch of Nelson fights, and you'll be screaming about what amazing barnburners Terrell was in! lol

No joking, that is certainly possible. People were disgusted with Terrell throughout his career, but then look at that great fight he gave Thad Spencer, which was his list fight to be filmed.

I have watched all of Terrell's fights and he's not too terrible. He's just not great. I do not like all the clinching and spinning and rabbit punching he does, but he has been in a few good ones. His fights with Spencer and Chuvalo were standouts. Have you seen those?

I've seen the Thad Spencer fight, yeah. It's a good one to be fair but I got the impression that Spencer made Terrell fight by not holding his feet. He stayed at mid range but kept moving. Ernie couldn't grab him so he had to throw punches.
I'd rather watch George Feeney and Ray Cattouse for the fiftieth time !

Yes, another very good fighter, who if he were around today would have got a lot more exposure.

That's a good point, I never thought that about Thad before. Easily the best fight of Terrell's career. It's the only time he seriously tried to knock someone out.

I remember seeing him fight live in a couple of early six or eight round bouts before he had a higher profile and he appeared to be trying to live up to that nickname, exaggerated Ali shuffles and so on. Once he entered domestic title contention, he dropped all that goofing around and became the boring fighter we now remember him as, though the 'Entertainer' tag persisted.
