Yes I do. He does look very open and vulnerable, but he has geniune power. If he fights someone like Thompson at this stage, he's going to get badly exposed and he does look very chinny. But he is exciting to watch and I hope he can become a geniune contender. Obviously his team knows about his flaws, so he's going to be very carefully matched. As far as his fight against Firtha, I think he did better than Fury who had to hold on for dear life and won by a classic british stoppage. Obviously Fury has improved alot since then, but still.
He will fail, there is no denying this. He cannot handle pressure, and the first guy that pushes him back and commits to short overhands is going to clip this dude.
How come everyone doubting Wilder must be a Klit nuthugger? Wlad probably has no more than three fans, there are many more doubting Deontay. It's not so much a question of whether or not you want him to succeed, it's more WHEN WILL HE FINALLY TRY??? His last 15 opponents have a median age of 37 or so, I've never seen such a ridiculously padded record before. I get that he started late, so he needs a careful build-up. But he's not gonna learn **** from first round KOs. He should have seen a decent journeyman before his 20th fight. Now he's got 30 KOs and has never been past round 4. Ridiculous. He needs an opponent that can last 10 rounds - so HE can last ten rounds. With him fighting guys over 35 you know that his handlers have NO faith in Wilder's stamina. They put him in the ring with men who are physically incapable to apply pressure past the 6th round. Just in case. GBP backs him because he's American and he has a fan friendly style. Unlike other contemporary Americans like Bradley, Ward, Trout, Dawson. May and B-Hop are getting away with being boring for sentimental reasons. Vitaly is gonna retire soon and GBP will just buy the belt. Then they'll exploit Wilder on some nice PPVs as long as they can. We all wanna see Wlad go, but how Wilder's been built up by robbin' graves rubs me the wrong way too.
I'd absolutely love Wilder to go on and dominate heavyweight boxing for the next ten years, that's exactly what heavyweight boxing needs. A black American heavyweight champion, just like so many of the greats and with a great KO ratio, he's perfect to bring the sport on. The problem is though, he's 30 fights in and is still fighting journeymen, that's unacceptable IMO. He's the most protected fighter I can think of and with that is going to come heavy criticism. Wilder must get used to this until he beats someone of significance and surely it's time to step up and do that now. I believe most boxing fans would love Wilder to go on and dominate heavyweight boxing but like me, people are growing very impatient and with that somes criticism, even if you do want the guy to succeed. At the end of the day, we're boxing fans more so than Deontey Wilder fans and as long as he keeps fighting the guys he's fighting he's offering very little to the sport.
Seth Mitchell was exciting to watch also. He punches extremely hard, but when he moved up and fought Cruiserweight Jonathon Banks, he got knocked out. Arreola also knocked him out, but at least Mitchell had the balls to fight Arreola! Vlad can punch extremley hard also, the difference is that he has balance, former gold medalist superheavyweight division, defeated all the other champions, IBF, WBO, WBA, IBF, Ring Champion, has beaten his mandatories, Vlad's right hand is awesome, his left hook also awesome, jab will probably knock Wilder out. Wilder sparring with Vlad for the Wach fight, totally outclassed him, knocked Wilder down with a jab! Oscar appears to have bought a WBC ranking for Wilder to make him #3, will probably try to cheat Stiverne and Make Wilder #1 without Wilder ever fighting one ranked fighter period. Perhaps a box-off with Sconiers? Wilder could not land his right hand on Vlad in sparring. Vlad wants to fight Wilder, he has said so many times. Vlad was going to fight Seth Mitchell, but Mitchell got knocked out. Vlad's punches are shorter, he has the shortest left hook I have ever seen, look at what he did to Shufford in Vegas...........Vlad has more technique, better defense, plenty of stamina. I would like to see Vitali fight Wilder for his retirement fight, which is possible, but don't know yet.
I want him to succeed. I have no problem with him taking it one step at a time. He had a very short amateur career. His learning process is now, in the pros. He'll be champion maybe in a year or two.
Most people just think it's high time he fought someone with a pulse, that's not hate it's just the way it is.
