Does anyone really think Maidana's past prime?

no, didnt old fighters like Morales and Corley take him to school

he just fought a younger guy who could box, Maidana cant beat boxers

his best win was a green Ortiz who played into his hands

Maidana reminds of the typical south american slugger

good punch good chin poor form and sometimes it gets them by but usually they lose when they run into superior boxers

Exactly I don't buy the "he's getting worse every fight" line. Morales would probably lose just as badly at 147 to DA.
People on the forums are far too quick to build people up and knock them down. He's still a dangerous guy but come on people say Fury's shot.

Maidana isn't a WW. He needs to go back down to 140.

past prime? this sounds similar to what pac fans were saying about pac getting schooled by the superior boxer Marquez. maybe weight could have been an issue. but past prime? hell no. i think Alexander deserves some props.

Either Morales ruined him with his unearthly powers either he is a not very big pressure fighter at 140 that was never supposed to go to 147. Great fight by Alexander nevertheless he should've KOed him but forgot about the body shots in the critical moments

I don't think so, I think he simple got his ass kicked but a clearly better fighter, who is still getting better, Alexander was stronger, faster, more skilled, and tough enough to stand up to him. Credit to Alexander, Maidana is still what he was prior to this fight, a nightmare for anyone weak of heart who won't stand up to him. He's not Elite but he's still formidable and a good challenge for almost anyone.

No, alexander although a non enjoyable gameplan he employed for the fans... for himself it worked great... he limited Maidana and did let him get a grove or let the flow fight, alexander would always reset maidana by hugging and clinching about 1000 times in a round, Alexander controlled when he wanted to fight and when he allowed maidana to fight, it was either hugging, or alexander working on the outside...

he did not let maidana work something khan and ortiz did allow, even the great morales allowed maidana to work as he would sit on the ropes at times and try and parry and weave away from maidanas shots... they would fight or back up or sit on the ropes allowing maidana to work... not clinch like a *****, although an illegal move it worked perfect for him.

Matthysse would own Maidana. It would be a great fight, but Lucas is a bit better.

Maidana was never that good to begin with. He was a flawed and limited guy who is tough and loves to bang. Those types have a tendency to get overrated.

Chino is tough but extremely unidimensional and easy to be picked by a boxer with skills

Maidana is abysmal. Huge heart, but skill-wise, he's hard to watch. He may or may not be past his prime. If he is, he's not much worse than he used to be.

But why is he taking fights like this? When guys who rely on power start doing this people straight away think"he is on his way out and is just going for broke, hoping one big punch gets him back in the mix"
I dont think he is done by a long shot but he needs a better match maker and better advisors.
