I'm big fans of both fighters, but would probably lean towards Groves if they fought at the moment.

Everyone seems to be demanding that this fight happens soon, but why? Wouldn't it be better for them to avoid each other for a few more years and wait for one/both to have world titles?

Both will improve as they have more fights, and by the time they do fight, the British public will b foaming at the mouth of a British world title unification fight.

Why not let this one brew for a while first?

The pair of them are saying that they are both the best SMw's in britain, so they have to fight to find out who is genuinely worthy of going on the challenge for the british title.
And to be fair there could be more money in a return fight, as whoever loses will surely want to put it right on their record.
This bollocks of let them avoid each other, no let's not have it anymore. Make it happen!!

I disagree. If they fight now and it is a brutal KO/wide UD, the loser would be set back about a year in thier career. It will be a long-ish road back to the top.

Let it brew like ricky and Witter who always slagged each other off. An when they develop further, then make it happen.

I don't think waiting for them to get world titles is the way to go. To many potential road blocks for that which could ruin it. At the same time having it right now isn't the best idea either.

I think if Degale could get the British title, while Groves has his Commonwealth title, they could have a big domestic unification fight. That would be the best scenario imo and would be a huge fight here.

ricky and witter never fought each other though.

For once, the fans need to be thought of.

    Let them do battle.

Put a return clause in it, whatever, just make them fight

It's like Macklin and Barker...the fight is finally happening which is great but both have now been European champion and it's for a decent title. If it went ahead a few years back for Macklins' British title then it would have been Barkers first real test and wouldn't have generated as much interest. Now it's happening when they've both done a little more and the fight is more interesting for it.

No hurry for Degale / Groves now, when (if) they are the two best supermiddles in europe then let them fight and the winner can go on to a world title shot.

This fight does not need to happen now...:nono

It needs to happen when it makes cash common sense for both fighters and there is a decent strap on the line...:yep

It needs to be developed at a decent pace and then let the media put their own top spin on it to give it that extra edge...:yep

When the Olympics are in London would give it a great selling point...:deal

    Autumn 2011 or Spring 2012...:deal

    Stick them in.

It's not as if it's Sugar Ray Leonard vs Tommy Hearns, and it's not as if there is a great deal of opposition to knock over either.

A couple more fights, then make it next year :deal

They would both fight each other tommorow no doubt, but all the interested parties will want the maximum financial return, right now is not the right time...:yep

    Pro Boxing aint a Sport, it's a brutal business...:deal

Let em fight, a defeat is not the end of the world so they could end up fighting again in the future anyway. I hate all this "wait" stuff. It wouldnt surprise me if Gamboa v Lopez never meet. It's always going to be "next time" and one of them (probably Lopez) will end up getting a whooping and the fight wont happen.

Degale's already turned it down, you can't make anyone fight!
It'll happen when there's enough money in it for him. That's the problem with his fat paydays from Warren.

Anyway, it's better at a later date. They'll both be better, more experience fighters and it'll be a better scrap.

I get a feeling it will happen in 2011. Groves could get to the British title first which forces the fight. Plus theres pressure for Warren to put on big domestic fight while he has no major world champions.

After Barker vs Macklin, Sexton vs Chisora and Brook vs Jennings what else can he does thats a major domestic clash. Bellew vs Cleverly, Mitchell vs Murray and Groves vs DeGale. There the 3 biggest all British fights.
