Torrez is young enough to come again, but he was already being hyped slightly too much. Even so, a solid win for Sanchez between two guys who were seen as fringe contenders trying to break into the top 10. How do you see Sanchez now in the standings?
I had Torrez in the top 20-15 so at minimum I'd have to rank Sanchez around there aswell. Considering that he also did dominantly beat Ajagba who's in my current top 10, I think Sanchez just manages to re-enter my rankings at 10-9. Still wouldn't put him above Ajagba currently though as Ajagba has been on a much better run.
That is what I am thinking. With his win over Ajagba and only a loss to Kabayel, I think he sneaks in. Though now we have to make room for Rico...maybe
He should be in everyones top 5. Since the Ring champ isn't rated Sanchez should really be 2nd after Kabayel.
Sure Ajagba has a better run, but he didn't run into a fighter of Kabayel's calibre. But yeah, i think it is fair to have him below Ajagba
Oh I saw the hype. I was telling people Torrez was on his way to getting KO as soon as he steps up cause his team wasn't preparing him properly. They were lining up highlight KO opponent for him. Great for selling the fighter but zero learning. Torrez was all about wild bull rush and swinging for the fence. I think the only fight he learned anything was with Vianello.
This was probably the greatest fight at Heavyweight to show two key things. 1. The Heavyweight scene in the US/America as a whole is dead. 2. If you're not fighting in Europe/European opponents, you can't be taken seriously as a Heavyweight in this current era, and this has been the case since the Klitschko dominance of the division. If guys like Sanchez want to be taken seriously, same in the future for Torrez, or guys like Ruiz looking to get back into the mix....Go and set up camp in Europe. In the same way that non-American fighters needed to travel to the US when it was dominated by Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis etc, now non-European fighters need to travel to Europe to fight Hrgovic, Dubois, Parker, Joshua, Kabayel, Fury, Usyk and even Itauma etc. We know why this hasn't been happening though, demonstrated by Deontay Wilder. If Deontay Wilder wasn't allowed to stay in America and go on a completely "Manufactured" run, to keep the WBC belt hostage over there, and was forced to travel to Europe, then Boxing as a sport would be even less popular in the US. But since Wilder's manufactured run came to an end, the US has been forced to send him to Europe, because he's the largest name in the US Heavyweight scene, but might not even be Top 10.
Always my #1, but gutted for Torrez Jr. Was hoping for the kid, despite how much of a Sanchez fan I was. Served a silent ban for the man, and now he breaks my heart.
