Does Holyfield stand any chance of beating Valuev?

Opinions guys?

I mean the man's 46 years old he'll have to keep his stamina up, have lighteneing footwork to close the gap and somehow manage to crack Valuev's jaw too - I just can't see it can anyone else?

Absolutely, Holyfield has a better than 25% chance in my book:

If he is serious and in shape he could win a (very boring and debatable) decision against Valuev. I can't see it being a highlight filled event either way! It will either be dull, or sad.

 

I hope THE REAL DEAL puts this giant to sleep, and teaches him something about a legit heavy.

minimal chance at best. Valuev will win by 6pts or so cause of his jab and size but mainly due to Holyfield's inability to let his hands go. Valuev has below average power so a stoppage is very unlikely unless the giant's size really leans on evander.

Absolutely not,he is finished and Valuev is better technically lately.

 

He's got a chance, sure...when it comes to this disgraceful travesy of a fight, the actual in-ring competition is the least of my worries.

Valuev is a big slow target. He showed a good consistant thudding jab against Liakhovich and Bergeron but lacked it against Ruiz, so maybe he can be pressured into using it less. Despite his huge size he's not a heavy puncher, relying more on accumulation. He's normally got good stamina, but again against Ruiz he seemed to tire in the last 3 rounds, something I haven't normally seen from him. He himself is 35, after all.

Holyfield's problem is letting his hands go. Make no mistake about it, Ibragimov really wasn't that busy in that fight, he only achieved 29 punches a round himself. But Holyfield threw even less, and it certainly wasn't from Ibragimov being that elusive a target...as with many of his fights this decade, there were stretches where Holy would be bouncing on his toes but simply not firing, not being able to get himself set perfect to throw. Or he'd lunge in with a hook and get tied up easily.

Valuev's head is a high target and Holy's not really a one-punch guy, so Holyfield needs to attack the body and try to get those punches in bunches. Attack early in the round, ride out the next couple minutes with simple stuff, then attack again for the last 30 seconds. Attack efficiently, since he can't attack consistantly.

So I could see a way to give him a chance, if not a big one. I might be prepared to go as high as 20%.

But the fact is - winning this fight could be the worst thing to ever happen to Holyfield.
If he wins, he has a big target on his head and no-one will be thinking of taking it easy on the old man. I would put nearly a 100% chance on him suffering a harsh knockout loss to an ambitious young heavyweight like an Arreola or Haye or one of the Klitschkos determined to get that WBA belt.

I hope instead it's a quiet UD loss and off into the sunset.
