Agreed. The Super 6 did a lot for the SMW division, and although it hasn't exactly been any real length of time since the Super 6 ended, it's wake has left the future of the division a little cloudier than I would have liked.

Thats a fair post. I guess because of some fights being given a competition name it created a great interest. I guess the aftermath was always going to leave a void. Really it needs Bute and Ward to happen.

Agreed. And I do think it will happen, but unfortunately, it seems Ward wants to get as much water in the bucket as they can. Before they throw the rag in.

I will also say that I think the contract situation with each Ward and Bute is effecting this whole process profoundly.

Bute has a fight left with Showtime. Showtime has an option on Ward's next fight.

It seems that Showtime is trying manuever Bute into an extension by refusing to accept the Froch fight.

I don't really know how the option on Ward would play in, but I'm guessing that Showtime, having invested so much in the S6 fighters and Bute, doesn't wan to be on the outside looking in when the mega fight gets made. I imagine they also don't wish to have to bid against HBO for the privilege either.

Yeh, Ward doesn't want to sign one to fight him.

Is Froch/Bute still the likely fight?

Yeah. It's the only fight that make sense to Froch, the imediate chance to the only title available good money and in his home-country. Negotiations are ongoing and close to an end, the only clue I got is that they are still fighting for the location. Bute's team prefers Manchester Froch and Hearns push hard for Nottingham.

    Bute-IBF
    Stieglitz-Kessler-WBO
    Ward WBC/WBA just beat him

Bute, for a few reasons. Ward seems to tire as a fight progresses. Consider Froch is slow and plodding yet won several rounds against Ward and Bute is faster than Froch.
    Bute is a harder puncher.
Bute can put combinations together better in my opinion.
Bute has looked better than Ward against all common opponents.

Its a fight that should happen though to clear the matter up. Knowing that Ward fears Bute, is good for Ward as it would give him a bit of an extra boost, but I doubt it would be enough.
Still if the fights in Oakland where Ward can hold and butt, it could make it more competitive

Agreed and I'm surprised Showtime got in the way. Why start a tournament designed to bring attention to 168 then screw up a big matchup featuring one of the guys you promoted?

Bute vs. Froch satisfies the public (and Ward's team's) demand he face a contender and sets a natural stage for Bute vs. Ward at the end of the year.....on Showtime.
