He took that little "almost" comeback & thinks he's the man.. WRONG... S. Martinez put on a clinic & to me he showed how great he was. He took plenty of flush shots from a CW & still dominated.. Almost only counts in the minds of losers, which clearly Chavez Jr. is... Maravilla needs to fight twice maybe 3 times more. Drop to 154 & ***** slap Canelo into submission to complete the Mexican destruction. Knock out GGG & maybe face Andre Ward at a catchweight if possible..

His main problem is his boxing IQ. He doesn't know when to throw and doesn't know how to use his size to lay on the smaller fighters. If he learns to use his elbows to stymie his opponent's offense on the inside like his father did, he could be a force.
Sure. He's got a fighter's mentality, and that was apparent in the manner in which he went after someone who had his number though the previous 11 rounds. You have to respect that attribute, even if you don't respect the manner in which he's conducted business in recent fights.
I think they'd better serve him teaching him to better utilize his jab. He hardly threw any, but at least 1 he did throw had Sergio off balance. I think with his size, at least attempting to establish the jab when outside his ideal range would serve him well and afford him FAR MORE opportunities to step in and pounce, and do what he does best. Agreed his ring IQ is subpar. I mean no one is confusing him with Andre Ward on that front. I think a jab is imperative for his arsenal. I'm not saying he should become an outside fighter who depends on it. But for ****'s sake, with his size he should at least try and throw half a dozen a round to mix things up and give guys something to think about. A jab alone would have made it trickier for Sergio to just stand at range with his hands down, but Martinez knew he was superbly positioned at that distance, and that he could easily disrupt Jr's rhythm with feints and differentiated lateral movement. That was my view, particularly during one of those middle rounds where I saw Chavez land a good one that left Sergio in an unfavorable spot.
I was very impressed. The thing is he needs to have more faith in himself and shrink the space between himself and his opponent a bit more recklessly. I guess he needs more faith in himself. He's like his dad with an incredible ability to fight inside while being aware of everything the opponent is doing, meanwhile landing with accuracy on the inside. He just needs to force that space invasion in a better way against a range fighter and learn to cut the ring off. He's still young, which is the exciting part, and this fight will be seen as a learning experience for him at the beginning of his career. The main difference between dad and son is the risk Chavez Sr. would take to get the first punch in and the risks he took to close the space. Chavez Jr. needs to realize on the inside it's all him all day. Hulk Smash.
For taking steroids to save a career that he been floundering on Latin Fury, being carefully guided to a title, and getting exposed when he fought an elite? No. **** him.
**** no I don't respect him! For what being able to take a beating, the guy did **** all for 11 rounds, then Sergio gets careless and Chavez drops him. Big deal, Paul Williams, Kelly Pavlik and Matthew Macklin all dropped Sergio too. He gets knocked down often, he's is a small MW, and he fought a dude the size of a CW tonight! And still wouldn't have been dropped by him if he hadn't gotten careless. I have a lot more respect for Macklin than I do Chavez, at least he gave Sergio a run for his money and actually had the scores almost even when Sergio stopped him. Chavez needs to fight a much improved Macklin now, (too see which one gets the rematch) if Jr. can whip him (which I really don't believe he can) then yeah that might earn a little bit of respect towards him from me :good
