There has been a strong rumour about Frochy smoking for quite some time - one he strongly denies. But when Froch tells you something, you generally assume the opposite.
sugar ray leonard had a cocaine habit during the 80's, got introduced to it during his first retirement i think. edwin rosario was on coke too. lots of fighters (many athletes athletes really), like a lot of people during the late 70's-80's cocaine boom, were using coke during the era.
Don't think the paparazzi would know who Froch is, even in Britain. He doesn't seem to have much in the way of a PR team. Beeston - how reliable are the rumours about Froch smoking? I find it pretty surprising, not someone I'd have expected to smoke. The lad just seems too serious to be messing about with his fitness like that.
Emmanuel Augustus likes a fat blunt or two, he got one of his fights called an NC coz they found some weed in his ****.
Monzon smoked up to 100 cigarettes a day; when fights approached he limited it to 50. Nicolino Locche also smoked upwards of 60 cigarettes a day.
The German jmw champion of the 70s Eckhard Dagge was an alcoholic during his whole career. He even stepped drunk into the ring. His trainer was going mad when he just vanished during the training for a fight and came back a few days later drunk and full of pills but still beat up his sparring partners. Well, he finally got clean but died only a few weeks later because of cancer. He was also trainer of Dariusz Michaelchewski and got fired by Universum when he inspired DM to copy his habits. His most famous quote goes like: "There are plenty of champions who became alcoholics but I´m the only alcoholic who became a champion."
Alot drink, a small but sizable minority smoke, it is always detrimental, especially smoking, but can be overcome.
