Pfff man, thats a stretch , outsized Holyfield and ran away from Lennox , not the makings of a top twenty Heavyweight. A great talent at his best though

I know you weren't asking me but Ali called Patterson the most skillfull fighter he ever faced. Pattrerson just got unlucky that a man with such a fragile psyche had to run into Sonny Liston.

This is kinda the arguement I'm trying to make I guess...If you're gonna rank Evander Holyfield in the Top 20 ..how can you not Rank a guy who defeated him twice..and keep in mind these were fights before Holyfield went on and defeated Mike Tyson Twice.

Mike tyson at 08 and higher than Holyfield?:nut i smell something irrational over here , ur list looks more appreciating talent than resume but then why put wlad over vitali, i cant explain it to myself , could u do it for me?

I see Bowe as at his best one of the better heavyweights I have seen to tell you the truth..Very good inside technician for a man of his size.

He was the first to beat Holy(and first to stop him aswell), Hide, Gonzalez and Donald...and had a fair few solid wins until he pretty much gave up on himself and ate his career away.

Top 20? Probably not but when you average everything out, he is probably not to far out of it.

I would place Bowe below James Buster Douglas

If you regard between 88 and 90 as Douglas's prime [A Longer prime than Bowes] he beat a former world Champion a future world Champion and the current World champion!

Lewis is grossly overrated by many on this forum.

Whichever position Lewis appears in an ATG list - Bowe should be more than 30 places below him

I wouldn't go that far. He's higher, but not as much as some seem to put him, and certainly not as much as that. You never saw Riddick Bowe taken out early by second rate fighters when he held the title.:-(

Oh, and Riddick Bowe fought a PRIME Evander Holyfield, not one on the downside!!

Talent wise yes but he really should have achieved more. We will never know for sure who would have won between him and Lewis but I think skills wise he may have been more gifted whereas Lewis was probably physically stronger.

    No problem.

Patterson is undefeated at HW for a seven year spell. He's the first man to ever reclaim the title, and was the youngest man ever to win it. Between 1955 and 1967 he is only beaten by guys who are in my top 5 for a total of 3 losses. He was nip and tuck with Jerry Quarry in that year, proving that he was still competitive at the very top sixteen years as a proffessional. His wider resume includes Archie Moore (top 50 HW) Johansson twice (Top 40 HW) as well as top line guys like Machen and Chuvalo.

He's got a beautiful skillset and head to head does well for me against the smaller HW's, and though Bowe should be favoured over him, I doubt he should be ranked above him.

These two posts are in the same pod.

You rate fight on wider achievement and resume as well as on skilset and ability. You can't rate fighters off "who beat who". It's normal to see Holyfield ranked above Bowe and Tyson ranked above Holyfield for this very reason, there's nothing irrational about it at all.
