yeah, i remember thinking at the end of that fight, whoa, who is that mother ****er!! And he should have more fans, he is awesome
Ya I think if he does that, most intelligent and unbias fans would have to give him his due. But idk, I think if he was 34 or 35, he could do it. But at 37, and to win four more fights in a row against Chavez2, GGG, Geale and Pirog.... at his age and the way he fights I just dont know if he will be able to do it. He would be 39 years old in the fourth fight, with even more mileage (he takes damage every fight, that will only continue if not get worse) I just dont see how a 39 year old Martinez will be able to hang with these young solid middleweights when he depends so much on his athletic ability at middle. But if he chooses to stay at middle (which i wouldnt do, i would have him move down if he can honestly make the weight, clean out 154) then I will be rooting for him every inch of the way without a doubt. And if he can do it, then like you say he will have to be considered the great middleweight of our era.
Just looked it up, and Martinez has made more defenses of the linear middleweight championship more times then anyone since Hopkins lost it to Taylor in 2005. Pretty cool
I agree with his decision to chase the payday fights, but I just don't think any of those guys (Floyd/Cotto/Canelo) are going to go for it. Chavez II is his only sound money maker and by the time he heals up, he may not even be able to make 160 anymore. Sergio can take the top rated, legitimate 160 fighters in the Middleweight division. He will. :deal
Why doubt him now? :hey It looks like Sergio tore his meniscus which is honestly one of the knee injuries you'd rather have if given no choice. It's a very quick procedure and most athletes recover within 6-8 weeks with little rehab. The hand will be a larger issue but it hasn't been revealed as to what degree and where those fracture(s) occurred as far as I've heard.
He already had a healthy fan base dude, didn't you notice that the Argentinians outchanted the Mexicans on their national holiday? It was class. But much of his fan base is back in Argentina and divided all over the world, so it's a lot more expensive trip from them than just crossing the Mexican border. Still, Chavez had like 70k PPVs before and this one will be a 500k, so it's safe to say that Martinez generated a large % of that, and who's NOT a fan after Saturday's showing? :deal He's a superstar now, deal with it.
Well I'm almost done with NFL (titans are my team) atsch So I think I'll just rather watch the Sex unify the MW division. :hi:
did you see how many argentien were in the crowd, he already famous in argentina and has millions fans overthere. as far as american, yeah he got more now.
