Again where are you getting 46 pounds from?

Their first fight weights were Holmes 221.5 pounds and Spinks 199.75 pounds.

Their second fight was Holmes 223 pounds and Spinks 205 pounds.

When the fight was discussed the fighting weights were 175 and 221.

Holmes was 46 pounds bigger so Spinks decided to add bulk to reduce the deficit.

Wlad outweighs Rocky by about 50 pounds that was one of the reasons I mentioned those two.

He had to add weight because if he didn't he wouldn't have been able to fight at HW for obvious reasons.

Of course history shows his journey to HW was a success when all is said and done no matter what happened against Tyson.

It was a success the first of its kind.

Yes and that's what I was getting at, I doubt it would have been a success had he met a prime version of Holmes but he beat him fair and square and made history on that night.

Another one to put out there, I believe a prime Billy Conn would have beat an old and past it Joe Louis had their age difference been the same as Spinks/Holmes.

We can talk about hypothetical situations all we want, but Spinks is the only man in history to do what he did.

Choklab males out like this benefits bigger fighters but I don't see it. What Spinks did allowed Spinks to compete at HW and win the championship (all lineage debate aside Holmes was undoubtedly number 1).

No one before or after did the same but Choklab talks about this as if it was a revolution that begun a trend. That's what I'm getting at.

No he isn't Roy Jones Junior did the same thing did he not?

Spinks was a great fighter no doubt but he caught the right man at the right time and would have likely beat the other contenders of that era not named Mike Tyson.

    Jones beat Ruiz, not Lewis.

Spinks went from the number 1 LHW to the number 1 HW in one fight.

He scaled a difference of 46 pounds to do it. 46 pounds. I know there's styles etc to consider but it just goes to show what fantasy fights are possible. Obviously for Spinks it wasn't fantasy, it was reality.

I know nobody would do it but I think they should scrap the rule where a fighter has to put extra weight on to fight in a higher division.

I'd like to know when this ruling was introduced?

What Spinks did he could not do in any other era. And what he did opened the flood gates for what that method could also do for a type of heavyweight that had been historically less successful at HW, the giant SHW because those methods (most likely banned PED) enabled SHW men to take over the HW division for the first time.

If that was not the case where was the 240 pounders between 1960 and 1985? Experts have stated that the population getting bigger levelled off for the US in the 1960s yet it took 25 to 30 years for 240 pound HW boxers to become relevant in boxing? The Americans dominated HW boxing from 1959 yet no 240 HW champions dominating the division until the 1990s? It seems strange.

Spinks was the first LH champion in history to become HW champion but he was not the first LH to do it. We must not He required artificial assistance to achieve it, and got it. Then everything changed after that point.

Spinks overcoming a 46 pound weight disadvantage by bulking did not lead the way for SHW fighters taking over.

That is evolution. That happened a long time ago. The average weight hasn't increased much since the 90's and even then we've had success by smaller fighters. Wladimir Klitschko ruling for a decade has nothing to do with Spinks signing to fight a man 46 pounds heavier than he.
