Just seems to be tradition but more and more professional boxing breaks away from it which is good. Amateur boxing i can half understand the break because many are volunteer's etc and it gives them a chance to get away from it for a little bit plus give lads a chance of a break. Some clubs tick over though which is up to them.
I guess their logic is lots of people will be away on holiday, and most big tournaments in other sports take place in the summer thus distracting people from boxing and making it harder to make some money.
I thought this was stupid but then I was told that this is the only times for boxers who often work another job to have a guaranteed break time during school holidays so they can be away with their kids and family. Thats the main reason anyway so fair enough lots of these guys work very hard in the ring and out of it so they deserve a period where they know they wont be training or there will be no fights.
No point at all in pro game. It's not as if there is a season in the same way that happens in team sports with a champion at the end. Fair enough for the amateurs as written above, to give the administrators, trainers and fighters a break but most will carry on training anyhow.
bit of a tradition then Gaz i can understand the AM's, should of made title clear i was on about the pro's, buts it hardly a break when the first fights of the season will be training during the ''break''
I think so mate. I'm not 100% on this but I think its from a time where boxers, pro and am, used to work the fairs in the summer months for money so they'd cut back on the boxing promotions.
Literally back to the bare knuckle days mate. Boxing booths at fairs pre-date organized boxing in the UK.
