i think you're HALF right. Mayweather is a Control Boxer. Donaire is a Control Puncher. Both looks to control the tempo of the fight and limit the opponent's offense. Donaire looks for a KO, because he has the power and willing to risk a bit to use that power. Mayweather is safety first and not willing to commit power, unless its obvious he wont get caught. Your analysis only covers one fighter. A top-tier fighter can go into survival mode and choose to avoid in getting KO'd. About all of Pac's opponent end up doing this in the later rounds. They limit their offense and maintain a more defensive stance in order to not get KO'd. One problem with Donaire, which was discussed by the commentators, is that he is a classic, linear puncher. About all his combos were straight at the head, and rarely mixed it up with the body. He obviously didnt know that you can step to the side, create an angle, and pull a hook around the guard to the body or head. Watching Lucian Bute or Andre Ward fight would do him a great service... So, in my analysis, it wasnt just Donaire thats turning into a "Control Boxer", but both fighters. One went in defense mode in the post6, and the other wasnt offensively diversified to get around that defense for a KO win which he was looking for...
