There's been a refreshing trend developing in Aussie boxing... ...fighters are starting to get matched up against similar quality fighters instead of career padders! Perhaps the Superfighter Series is the biggest example, but there are suddenly other match-ups around the place the likes of which we haven't seen for quite some time. I am I getting carried away too soon here?
When Mundine puts a card together, you can bet your life you're getting top quality entertainment. In particular seeing Peter Kazzi in gatti-like wars..
Records are deceiving. Ciampa showed he was a tough guy and put up a good, hard fight. Plus Pittman took that fight on short notice seeing how he thought he was guaranteed a spot on th contender.
...and struggle! There's nothing pretty about Ciampa, but he made Jamie dig deep and his life hell for 6 x 3's.
i wouldnt start chuckling too loudly yet ash.he may have struggled with someone with a **** record but at least he had the balls to go over to germany and fight sturm.whats the bet mundine doesnt even though he is sturms mandatory. you up for an off the board bet?mundine doesnt fight sturm.
I think things have been on the improve and while it started before channel one, Superboxer hasn't hurt the trend. I think it comes down to the fact that there is more competition for the punters hard earned. In these tough economic times we all watch our spending a little closer so the promoters know they have to out on a decent show for us to part with a money...
Probably right regarding the punter's hard earned Fish. For too long local promotors have just matched their half dozen or so fighters with career padders, often from overseas. The overseas fighters usually arrive with a whole lot of fanfare and drum beating, and their often suspect records are carefully concealed from the average mug punter boxing fan. Saddest thing is we've seen imports with dismal recent (or total career) records come over here and fight for titles. Can remember imports who lost their last 10 fights challenging locals for titles, or vacant titles!
