take into account that he was walking around at his fight weight?? he had been near it for months before the fight happened:deal
Oscars own words at the time of the Steve forbes fight was that he felt much better at 150lbs and that he would beat Mayweather at 147lbs rather then 154lbs because he would be faster and sharper at the lower weight. Cotto came in at 146 lbs against Clottey, this was the fight just before he fought Pac so making 145lbs was hardly a stretch for him. Cotto was never a big Welterweight and only moved to 154lbs after the Pac fight as Arum set him up with a "gimme" World title belt against Yuri Forman. Unlike Chicken Mayweather, Cotto has the balls to fight at 159lbs against a Middleweight like Martinez. Chicken Mayweather would never choose to fight someone like that as he likes cherry picking bums like Ortiz, Maidana, Guerrero or picks on 135lb fighters like JMM who BTW is the ONLY TOP 10 P4P BOXER that Chicken Mayweather has ever fought! That's 1 Top 10 P4P fight in his whole Chicken **** career and that was getting JMM to move up 12lbs haha. TOTAL DISGRACE. And before you try to challenge this, i mean they weren't P4P at the time they fought Mayweather so guys like Mosley, Oscar and others don't count as they weren't in the P4P list when Chicken Mayweather fought them. PACMAN is FIGHTER OF THE DECADE for a Reason, he has fought a total of 6 guys who were Top 10 P4P at the time he fought them. Barrera in 2003 Morales in 2005 Morales in 2006 Bradley in 2012 JMM in 2012 Bradley in 2014 Pac is and always will be a braver and more honest fighter then Chicken Mayweather. Only mental ******s support Chicken Mayweather!
You realise that half of those fights are in different decades, he's lost two of them and the other one hasn't taken place yet, right? Corrales Zab Judah Ricky Hatton Shane Mosley JMM They were all P4P top 10s when Mayweather fought them. That's from 2000-2009 Guerrero Canelo Both of them were also top 10 P4P fighters heading into the Floyd fight. That's from 2010-now
the amateurs have same day weigh ins... works fine for them. ppl fight closer to their natural weight, especially for tournaments.
They do, and in many ways it's a better system because it discourages fighters from dehydrating down to an unnatural weight to make the weight limit knowing they have 24 hours to put the weight back on again. The ideal system - though totally impractical to implement - would be for fighters to step on the scales just prior to getting in the ring. The whole idea of weight limits is of course being to pit similarly weighted fighters against each other, and the current system does not achieve that.
You know, this is one of the best threads I have read through in long time. Pretty much every poster had something constructive to add even in partial disagreement. A couple of dam fools but that goes with the territory. Keep it up gents.
Canelo weighed below 154 in his fight against trout, so let just cut the bull sh1t. Canelo did not make 154 because he was the star of the show and took full advantage of the situation. He weighed in over the weight limit deliberately, I think to better his ability to take Angulos punches.. This is why the same day weigh in should be brought back.. This will keep fighters from taking advantage of the system, weighing 20 or more pounds after making weight is just bull sh!t and really is a unfair advantage.
The problem is not every fighters or person re-hydrates the same, some put on more weight then others. To eliminate this, have same day weigh ins. This way come fight night the difference is weight between fighter is not as wide as we have seen in past fights.
That still is above welterweight ... just saying:?. ALso he only wanted to fight Pac b/c he didn't want Margarito after the Cotto fight (when no one knew of his wraps). I am not the one to use the drained excuse, but you can tell from his body he wasn't at a healthy weight. As far as the second bolded part, are you serious?!:-(
152 drainelo, definition of drained. deader than dead, has to pay extra to not die getting down to 154.
