The thing is, I actually think Floyd would have success even fighting off the ropes, though that's generally considered suicide against Margarito. I think his shell defense and reflexes are perfectly suited to deflecting and countering Margo's shots. There's also no better defense to the body than the Philly Shell done correctly. Ultimately, while a fighter of Margarito's style would generally be a big nuisance to Floyd, I generally think he's simply too slow and wide to land often, especially without being countered, and his strengths get nullified by Floyd's technical skills and defense, even when Floyd's where Margo wants him to be. I don't think it would be easy though, not down the stretch anyway. I do see Floyd taking the majority of the rounds clearly though.

He did outbox Margo for the first 6 rounds. Floyd can plant his feet, throw his punches and get out of there against Margo, YES HE'S THAT FAST! But yes, he could pot shot the whole fight and win

Floyd does NOT have better stamina. If anything, or if you are honest, that is too close to really call. You just want to give Floyd any advantage you can think of for your *ahem* analysis....

Yeah, he'd get the best of the excahnges even when hes on the ropes because he'd block most of those body shots and for every body shot Margo throws PBF will land 2-3 to the head.

 Sure he can.... Tell me what other volume puncher Floyd pot shotted against, as an example. Hell man, YOU KNOW Floyd's only really done that once..vs. Baldomir.

And if Floyd plants his feet, Margarito is ALL UP ON HIM. Margarito will attack his body. What's floyd gonna do, shoulder roll the body attack? :patsch

Possible. But those wide punches are only slower going upstairs. Margarito isn't a head hunter, which is who Floyd's shoulder roll defense works best against.

That's just it Margo is so wide open, slow and plodding that PBF could stick and move on his ass(stay on his bike) all night long and skate to a UD win. Margo doesn't have the jab or ring IQ to trouble PBF. Margo would be following PBF around the ring, eating straight right hands and counter hooks, not cutting it off because he can't against a general like PBF. Margo would be frustrated with his inability to land anything of note on PBF and he would beg for PBF to stand and trade but unlike Cotto PBF wouldn't oblidge him and crack him with another straight right hand for the 200th time and be out of the way. Margo is too limited of a fighter to beat an elite like PBF and it's obvious.:deal

There's more to the Philly Shell than just the shoulder roll though. The left hand is placed horizontally across the abdomen with the elbow protecting the left side. The right elbow connects horizontally where the left glove ends, making for a tight enclosure around the mid-section, especially when done with a turn of the waist, limiting the amount of hittable space even more so, which Floyd has mastered.

However, with Margarito's workrate and clubbing power, it wouldn't be wise for Floyd to spend too much time on the ropes, because regardless of whether or not Margarito's landing clean shots or winning rounds, those punches to the arms, elbows, shoulders, etc will still eventually take their toll.

What you're not understanding is that it doesnt matter if you're a volume puncher. How is he gonna manage to throw more than 70 punches a round when Floyd isnt gonna be in his face long enough for him to do so. Unless he's gonna throw crushing left upper cuts and right hooks at the turnbuckle or air, he'll get off his 100 punches per round. Floyd isnt gonna be in his face as much as Cotto was, therefore why would he throw pucnhes when he's not even in range to make contact with his punches? And once again, YES FLOYD is fast enuff to plant his feet, throw 2-3 shots, and get out of there. And his Philly Shell D is the bes defense for the body attack. Just think of what Floyd does, everytime he gets in front of his opponent, he gets off first. With Margo, he would get off 3 while Margo only gets off 1.

He's not as wide open as you like to claim Pimc C. He keeps his chin tucked basically every second of the fight, and uses his jab to parry away some punches. Ya'll act like he's Mayorga or Gatti on defense.

How can you question his ring IQ? What the heck is that based on? His style works for him, so how does he have a low boxing IQ? Because he's NOT Floyd? :patsch

Face it man, Margarito helped Make floyd's decision to retire. And it bothers you that someone who you think so little of, contributed to his early retirement.

And unlike Cotto, Floyd knows how to clinch. Which he would definetetly do if he found himself on the ropes or in the corner. The more I think about this fight I just start thinking about Jones vs Ruiz!

No, Floyd was talking retirement before the world even knew who Margarito was.
