The fact is that the nomas fight bothers Leonard and his fans more than Duran and his. Durans place is secure. Leonards is the one debated. Hilarious and fitting for the phony.
Thanks so much for your thoroughly referenced newspaper clippings. Please just look at Duran's body in New Orleans, then look at him in Montreal, it is not all a conspiracy.
A lot of that is just PR anyway. Boxing is essentially a promotion aimed at making money from selling tickets and PPVs. Nobody is going to say in the build-up to a fight that their fighter is in poor condition and not training properly. It's like how actors will give interviews talking about how great their new movie is, even when it is plainly terrible. Buster Douglas' trainer and manager were talking about what great shape he was in before he showed up to fight Holyfield 15lbs overweight in one of the laziest, most couldn't give a **** title defences in history. Duran was clearly not in good shape for that fight (totally his own fault). His post-Montreal bender, him being 156lbs a few days before the fight and his post weigh-in eating binge are all well-attested.
The following day, one could read headlines, such as, "Duran, Leonard return cancelled". Mike Trainer effectively declared that, as far as Team Leonard were concerned, there were no plans for a new match. Why is this important? Well, whether or not one believes Duran was training for a fight that had not yet been negotiated, to the satisfaction of all parties, it's easy to imagine Duran not being entirely committed to a deal that didn't exist. Indeed, no deal would be made, for at least another three weeks and the fight was not actually signed for until mid-October.
I've written previously, in threads on the Duran/Leonard II topic, that the fight itself provides the best evidence for Duran's physical condition. The contrast between Montreal Duran and New Orleans Duran, is captured on film, visually verifiable and quite evident, from my perspective.
Could you perhaps point to the documented sources, which can elaborate on these alleged, pre-Montreal weight issues, please? This claim does not tally with any of the pre-fight build-up reporting I have read and I've not seen anything, which indicates that Duran underwent an exercise of last-minute drying out, the day before the fight. (Note: Duran was over the limit on the actual day of the fight in New Orleans). Incidentally - A Montreal summer isn't likely to have felt like a summer to Duran.
Both their places are secure. Both are top 20 fighters and Duran is commonly top 10 while Leonard often skirts the 10-20. No Mas certainly doesn't bother Leonard fans more as Duran quit. He surrendered. To have the king of machismo walk away and quit ends any such debate. Decades later many fans are still trying to fob it off and grasp any sort of face saving reasoning they can out of it.
But I think his point is that it did bother Ray more than it did Duran. This is why Ray made the documentary and went looking to talk to Duran about it ... Duran was like sorry dude, I do not know what to say ... I really wasn't into it ... But Ray already knew that before he went !!
HAHAHAHA ... " okay, here we go, 2 to the Cheser, big bull to Tablations, 10 to Billy to match his wang, and the dealer gets a 3 "
