Around 75- 78, when you might expect Duran to fight for a title at 140, the champions were Saensak Muangsurin, and briefly Miguel Velasquez, in the WBC, and Cervantes in 72 -76, Wilfred Benitez 76-77, and Cervantes again until 1980 in the WBA. If he challenges for a title at welter a little earlier than he did in reality, assuming he would, the belts were held by Carlos Palomino 76-79, Benitez 79-80(almost) in the WBC. In the WBA Pipino Cuevas was champ from 76-80.
