It is scary when I think back, but ESPN has been on the air since 1979 for Christ Sake......... "Duran-Laing" was shown by ESPN in Sept. of '82.... Al Bernstein called the action.........

My folks and I first scored cable TV in late 1982........ I've been recording fights off HBO & Showtime eversince Michael Dokes stopped Mike Weaver on HBO in ONE round in Dec. of 1982...... The ******* ref was Joey Curtis...... Bedlam..........

I haven't the slightest how to do that..... My bud had a copy from VHS which he burned to disc for me a few yrs ago..... That's all I got.......

Again, I saw the fight on HBO back in 1982 when I was in High School....

Michael Dokes KO'd some dude named Lynn Ball in ONE round on the undercard........

Are you a Duran fan? If so, you're best avoiding the Benitez fight...and Laing. They both make a show of him.

They don't make fighters / fights like they used to for me.......... During my heyday in the early to middle 1980s, I used to get all worked-up over some of the big fights that were made back then.... WHY? Because all my favorite fighters were still active and kickin' ass............. Dudes like: "Holmes, Leonard, Duran, Spinks, Hagler, Pryor, Arguello, Camacho, Chacon, Sanchez, Curry, Foreman, McCallum, Hearns, Mancini & Haugen" were my guys I liked seeing fight.....:yep

Today, we do have some good guys out there, but they don't motivate me like my original home boys did......... Modern dudes like: "DLH, Toney, K Bros., Pacquiao, Hops, Marquez, Barrera, Morales, Kelley, Dawson, Pavlik, Froch & Tarver" are kool, but it ain't the same as 25 yrs ago........... NOPE! Not even close......
    :-(

Yeah, Duran was still capable of greatness in the 1980s, but 82 was a year he'd want to forget.

I doubt it. An era where ever Tom, Dick and Pudwill gets a title shot will never be looked back on overly fondly. Packed stadiums with a crackling atmosphere watching British title fights when they meant something will always be more memorable than your average Interim WBO light-middleweight fight.
