How did you find the fight regards to how great it was? I might watch it later. It's the HBO version I have and had it for about 8-9 years. Probably watched it 3-4 times.
I thought it was one of the best fights in terms of drama ever. It's difficult watching it now knowing what looms ahead, so I can just imagine being there at the time it happened.
I don't think Tayor would approach a fight vs. Duran the same way he approached The Chavez of 1990. Meldrick didn't show any respect to Julio Cesar Chavez and he paid for it BIG. Going into a fight vs. Roberto, Taylor & his camp would have decided to box and move similar to the SRL II fight, Thus eliminating as many toe to toe action as there was in the Chavez fight. (based on respect for Duran's past) I'd expect Roberto to take Taylor deep into the championship rounds and possibly stop him. Tho Taylor also had the skills at his best to frustrate any fighter, Just too much Philly in him for his own good. Duran by T.K.O. or. Taylor by 12/15RD. UD (Frustration) (Depends what version of Duran decides to show up)
Why would they have any more respect for Duran's past(he'd only have fought at 135 by the time he got to Taylor) then they would Chavez's past? Taylor was not that type of stick, move, and box fighter, he just did it in spades. That was not his game, and even if he were to imply it, it's not as if any fighter can just decide to stick and move and they'll beat Duran. Taylor would be beaten up and outclassed skill-wise after troubling Duran a bit early on, but he'd have the distance closed on him too much to get anything going on the outside. You underrate the absolute hell out of Duran, yet again. People don't seem to realize just how freakin good he was. A full level above someone like Chavez.
I think he means 'more respect for Duran's past' based on him being a different fighter to Chavez. Better skills, more adaptable, and simply a harder proposition to overcome. This match-up is anyones guess as to how each person, eg; me and you, is thinking as to what Duran has under his belt at 140lb's before facing Taylor. We know that Chavez beat Mayweather and had two defenses before facing Taylor. Lets assume Duran is moving from 135lbs right up to 140lbs to face Taylor, thus being his first fight at the weight. Just depending on how Hatesrats is interpreting Duran's past compared to Chavez's.
