Absolutely. Felt a bit bad for Dawson, though, I heard him talk prior to the fight and seemed like a really nice guy, and sounded determined. I was a bit shocked of the skill gap between those two. And that Dzinziruk jab was something else, must be one of the best out there right now.
Dzinziruk is like a slightly inferior version of a prime Kessler due to his lack of power. He's a great boxer with great focus and can take a big shot. Both Joel Julio and Daniel Santos caught him with huge money punches but it didn't even stun the guy. I always thought he could outbox Paul Williams and has indeed called Williams out in the past.
I can see why Williams' team looked elsewhere when the possibility of fighting Dzinziruk came up before- he's too good for how much money he brought to the table at that point and doesn't present a favorable style matchup for the Punisher. I wonder if we'll get to see that fight now that Dzin's got a U.S. promoter and some backing now?
I think he meant that he jabs so hard it is almost like a power punch. Actually I think Tarver is a pretty damn good commentator, he's spot-on most of the time.
I was actually going to say he most reminded me of a 154 lb southpaw version of Wladimir Klitschko (under Emanuel Steward's tutelage). He's kind of got all the best qualities of both Klitschko and Kessler (except crushing power), and is a bit more fluid in his footwork and head movement than the average practitioner of the stand-up European style. A few years back the few diehards that knew of him claimed that he and Sergio Martinez were cut of similar cloth. This was before Martinez really raised his profile, and most who'd seen both agreed that either had a chance to step up and do very well at the elite level despite their resumes not having been that deep at the time. I think he matches up very well with Martinez, he's got one of the better chances against him at 154. I still don't know that Martinez wouldn't still deserve to be the favorite, but it would be very competitive and a fascinating tactical battle. If they're really setting up Dzinziruk-Angulo, it's great news for Sergiy. Perro will make him look even better than he is, and maybe even get stopped in the same manner that Dawson did (simply taking too much punishment, if not necessarily dropped or put on ***** Street by any one blow).
That's actually a common misconception, Cash. This is from popular betting website Docsports: "If you wanted to bet the over/under on rounds, you are betting the fight will be or won't be stopped before a certain point. If you bet it would go 10.5 rounds, the fight would have to complete a full 10 rounds, plus one minute 30 seconds of the 11th round." Think about it. When they have an over/under on 11.5 rounds for a championship fight (or 9.5 in a ten-rounder), a bet on the over is essentially saying you think it will go the distance. If there's a more than a minute and a half left in the fight when it gets stopped, it is under 11.5 rounds.
That's correct. Referee robbed me. Dawson is durable and would have went the distance but fighter health is a major concern. No sense to take that punishment. It sounded like a total shutout from the start and Sergiy is kind of a fighter who would pepper you with that jab and straight left to the death. Anyway good Dzinziruk showing makes me happy enough.
I think Dzinziruk was on his way to KO Dawson anyway. The Aussie started backing up big time in that round, he ate leather non-stop and he stopped throwing back, while Dzinziruk sat more and more on his punches going for the kill. Even if the round had continued, his corner shouldn't let him out for the 11th. Poor kid was totally dominated by a much better fighter.
No, you're 100% right. When he said that he thought he lost it confused me. Of course it has to be 10 AND a half rounds.atsch
Great RBR IB - I didn't get to see the fight but after your summary, I barely needed to. Excellent work, my friend.
