Dude, I'm not lying to you.

I didn't realize you thought the "signature punch" part was relevant to opponents' fear. Because I don't think it makes any difference.

Why? What about the film -- without using records, quotes, or words-- makes you believe this?

That's not trolling. That's what you're supposed to do in a boxing debate.

You claim that the 90s guys hit harder on film. I'm saying, "Where's your evidence? Which films?"

You made the claim. Why should I accept your words when you've been telling me for 18 pages that I should ignore words and look at the film to judge for myself?

are you trying to say I need that to t what I can see

the people known to hit hard in 70s are gerry which is underrated who I would say was up there behind earn he didnt throw power shots all the time tough

    ron
    George
    quarry
oscar was known to be a great counter puncher when doing that he hit hard
    these are the names known

do you want me to go through the mutiple times even mid carders that hit hard i dont see a reason you need me to list that do you

yea you should judge yourself I have said that from the start I dont know why you keep saying I claim

my evidence is mutiple people who have video when it's not a even list to compare to those from 70s sense it's way more

Because needing to prove fear of a specific punch actually makes your argument harder.

I thought you wouldn't deliberately weaken your argument, so I didn't think you were insisting on specific fear of a signature punch.

I don't know how you'd prove that, since nobody is a mind reader here.

1-well that's ****ing stupid. If that's what he actually means he is either a troll or he doesn't understand boxing yet refuses to entertain any view point outside his own. Unless you're a gorilla, you're not going to have a 100% success rate knocking out every opponent within this arbitrary ass pull 8 punch limit.

And there is, objectively, a man at some point in the history of boxing who hit the hardest. Just like we have records for the strongest man in the world based on dead lifts/bench pressing/etc, the fastest man, etc. He exists whether he wants to accept it or not. The only difference between this discussion and other milestones in sports is that boxing isn't a video game or anime with machines telling us objectively who hit the hardest. But we do have some clue based on deductive reasoning and footage. It obviously isn't someone like Derrick Chisora for instance.

I mean if we're using fear, Liston might be #1. The great Muhammad Ali admitted that was the only time he was scared. The only guy to go the distance with a prime Liston was Machen who ran for the hills and fought an extremely negative style to keep away. Patterson lost before he even got in the ring, twice, and he was the champion. Nobody ever walked through Listons punches or just took a barrage of them remaining upright round after round. He passes the eye test and he damn sure passes the fear test.

it's not hard to prove look at the video when you see the punch landing

you can see mutiple people Mike sure they stay away from it or stop that certain punch by doing everything they can cause they knew the damaged it cause just from grazed

you thought I was using the classic quote of somebody being feared I never liked that which you know I dont like most quotes cause or them being flawed I explained it better

Gerry, Lyle, Foreman. Maybe Mac Foster. If you're talking mid/late 80s, then you're adding guys like Tyson (Bruno, Weaver, Witherspoon, Bonecrusher, Coetzee...?)

Lots of people on this forum think these people hit as hard, or harder than, your 90s guys. I don't see your argument to the contrary as very persuasive so far.

But isn't it just common sense that an opponent would stay away from his opponent's best punch?

That doesn't prove the puncher has massive power. It just proves his opponent isn't an idiot.

Because you are claiming things. Everyone in this thread is claiming things. That's what happens in an argument.

Uh, Tyson landed his "signature" right hook the the body+right uppercut to Holyfield. Not only did Holyfield stay upright, he showed no fear at all. Completely neutralized Tyson with roughhouse tactics and remained right in front of him.

Douglas took a nuclear uppercut from Tyson, had no fear or respect for him.

Ruddock got dropped by Tyson and literally laughed and continued to slug it out with no fear for Tyson's signature punches.

Tyson landed way more than 8 power shots on guys like Tillis, Tucker, Smith, etc. None of them were scared of him either and all went the distance.

    Conclusion: Tyson's power was overrated.

now if we are talking the louis or before era every mid/big name from 70s-90s hit way harder then those dudes
