Walcott late KO after Shavers fades.

Shavers has the possibility of blasting anyone out as he showed against Holmes/Norton/Young. Walcott was a little chinny and may have succumbed to Shavers power if Shavers lands

So he may have ko'd Walcott in a round but Walcott is the superior boxer and should be too good defensively for that. Shavers is also chinny and Walcot may score an impressive KO

 

This is kind of how I see it as well.

Too many variables or what if's to make a decisive pick here. Shavers could have blasted Walcott early, or Jersey could have pounded Earnie late.

Earnie " the attorney " Shavers always made a case for himself by laying down the law with that right hand though.

Ok, I admit that was a lame attempt in humor for those who even got it.

This is a fight where anything could really happen, given Shavers' power and stamina and Walcott's less-than-granite beard.

If I had to beat, I'd take Walcott. Better defensively and craftier.

 

i would pick earnie in this one, bigger and stronger with more power. Walcott has been kod numerous times, and i think it would happen again.

 

I'd say more like Holmes-Shavers I. In the second fight, Holmes fought with something to prove and entered into a lot of unnecessary exchanges (and thus got clocked). In the first fight, he fought an ultra-cautious fight and won every round, barely sustaining a single clean headshot.

Given that Walcott never fought aggressive unless he was forced to by a great fighter (Louis, Marciano) I can't imagine him fighting foolishly against Shavers. He'd fight a (dull) safety first fight, countering Shavers whenever Shavers attacked, but mostly waltzing his way through the fight. It'd be one of those bouts that would be impressive to watch on fast-forward, but brutally boring on normal motion.

 

Walcott the much craftier fighter, far superior boxer With the knowledge of Shavers power and lack of stamina,suspect chin, expect Joe to box and use his angles and footspeed to outmanuver Shaver early in the fight until a pinpoint hook drops Earnie about the 5th, from there JJw lands a few sneaky right hands, has Shavers against the ropes lands some great body shots and right hands after the shuffle for a TKO win in 9

 

I like Walcott by KO, pretty much any time in the fight. He could do him in early ala Tommy Gomez if he gets in a few good counters in succession, or he could quite likely lay back and do enough to outpoint Earnie, probably scoring a late KO as Shavers fades, but with a reasonable chance of the fight going the distance as well.

 

If Walcott lands that hook that dropped Charles and Marciano, Shavers is not getting up.


Walcott is very proven against punchers, he faced an astonishing amount of them and was taken out only twice when anywhere near his prime. Unfortunately, most people remember him for those two KO's as they are memorable fights.

 

Walcott would win Earnie has a punchers chance if he lands it could be all over but Walcott had an excellent defence and was unpredictable he threw punches from all angles. Walcott via late KO.

 

Very True....He did not waste punches, he had pinpoint power and a clean hook like the ones that KO'd Charles and floored Marciano would have flattened Earnie not to mention his sneaky right hand ( that had Louis down a few times) was no joke

 

I don't see Walcott lasting long enough to get those pin point punches off, much as I like him.

Earnie at his focused best was pretty scary, like when he blew Norton out even faster than Foreman managed to.

I think, being KO'ed as often as he was, Walcott gets backed up by Earnie early in rounds 1 or 2 and KO'ed.

 

And really, Earnie's chin wasn't THAT bad.

Most of his stoppages were him gassing out completely, Wladimir style.

Vs Cobb and Stander, those were Earnie gassing.

The only person that I ever know of blasting Earnie out of there is Quarry when Earnie thought he was invincible.
