I can’t speak on the Tillis fight however Holmes beat him to pieces, Ali was very, very shot and Young was a novice.
Shavers did his best against the young cowboy, even being able to score a knockdown in the ninth, but just couldn't take him out. Shavers had success against certain slicker guys because he wouldn't lay off of em, even if he wasn't the best finisher.
I rewatched this fight earlier this year and i found myself shaking my head at Young's tactics in the Ali fight. As for this fantasy match up Byrd has a notable win against a big puncher in Tua, but also got poleaxed by another notable puncher in Ibeabuchi. Byrd did have a tendency to fight off the ropes and i don't think that is a good idea vs Shavers, Ali wasn't that successful laying on the ropes vs Shavers and didn't fall for Ali's tactics. Norton went towards the ropes and got absolutely poleaxed by Shavers. Holmes was successful against Shavers by using constant moving his back never touched the ropes once. I think overall this is a winnable fight for Byrd but i could also see Byrd getting caught and not recovering, if Byrd survives the first 6 rounds his chances of winning greatly increase as Shavers didn't have the best stamina.
Byrd UD. I don’t understand why you guys are talking about Byrds chin, he’s been stopped but only by huge punchers who have 50 pounds on him
This content is protected Shavers is an elite puncher. Everything can be questioned, but not that. Also, I didn't just state: "Byrd would more than likely be knocked out". This content is protected https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/mount-rushmore-of-hw-punchers.709690/
There's no realistic comparison between Tua and Shavers, though - neither in armory nor style. Have you seen that performance from Tua against Byrd? Pitiful.
That’s the usual Tua performance he’s been behind on points against a lot of fighters but usually manages to catch his opponents
If you say so. I disagree. It certainly didn't look anything like what I'd expect a Shavers/Byrd bout to look like.
I'd bet on a two-handed fighter like Shavers, before I'd bet on a one-handed, 'one-punch in his armory' plodder like Tua, any day of the week.
