Watch his fight with Biggs on utube. Terrific fight. Biggs came to win but gassed. Mason was 100% durable.
I find it impossible to speculate as Gary was, as pointed out, unproven. I liked him, he was a decent boxer, big, strong, durable, heavy hitter but a tad slow. He did as well against Lewis as most. Shavers, like Mason, built his early reputation on weak opposition, but went on to have a stellar career. Mad guess, Mason by late stoppage.
Mason to my knowledge was never off his feet as a professional and took Lewis's best punches without ever really being troubled it was more the eye injury. Whilst Mason was never really tested at the upper echelon level there was no evidence his chin was a problem infact I would say along with his power it’s probably his best asset. PS I see @Greg Price99 already addressed this so no need to reply to me @mr. magoo
Hi Buddy. I sort of see Mason in a similar light, like all HWs and in particular british, they are fed cannon ( no pun ) fudder through most of their early to mid career, so it's hard sometimes to estimate the true worth of said fighter, a bit like his counterpart Bruno, he looked like he was walking through quicksand sometimes, he was slow and ponderous in the extreme, many a time I would shout at the tele, move !! thinking Joe Joyce is not too dissimilar in that respect, I can't really accept he was world class, in the true sense of the word, but he was a likeable fellow, and met a sad end. stay safe guys, chat soon.
I think we saw the extent of Mason's level when up against a novice pro in Lewis - who, quite frankly, beat Mason at a canter. Mason was tough, though - Just not sure he'd stand up to the best version of Shavers and his power. I'd most likely bet on a Shavers win, by way of early-to-mid-rounds KO.
